Hi all,
Hearing a hard drive whirring up into action and then clicking like this has always worried me. Usually happens when a drive is about to die...
i have 5 SATA HDDs installed in my machine spread between the regular SATA ports and some on the GSATA ports, and a SATA BluRay drive also on one of the ports.
one of the HDDs is a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB which was previously acting up and causing the entire machine to pause for a few seconds and snap back into action. the drive itself was rarely accessible and frequently disappeared from windows. i changed the SATA cable for a brand new one and that problem appeared to stop, the hard drive became fully accessible and reliable.
now, however, with that one HDD installed amongst the rest ALL the other drives are acting like this - they are all accessible and reliable but they ALL do this ramping up whizzing sound then *click* into action before they can be accessed. this happens whenever I try to access them, not when I am not.
if I remove this one HDD all the others work perfectly and there is none of this whirring/snapping/pausing going on. everything can be accessed perfectly.
is it a simple problem that this one HDD is screwed and thus causing major issues with the other SATA HDDs installed? Or something else? Maybe the combination of drives across the SATA and GSATA ports?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
