Who doesn't own a telly?

these days, i find myself wondering why i bother with a licence more and more. everything seems to be repeats.

top gear is the only thing i like to watch religously. pretty sure i could watch that on iplayer?

The only time I watch tv is in bed before I go to sleep. Everything else is done on my computer.

My 1st paragraph asked whether it was still considered as unusual now. I don't think I was boasting, thanks Dimple.

I stand corrected but in the past we have had many posters looking down on people who watch TV BUT they usually watch some kind of catch up or download to watch later.
So in answer to your question the only thing I normally watch live is football and everything else is recorded or acquired so I could do without a TV but I'd have to plug my motorised satellite system into a monitor.

I own a TV, it gets used for playing games on the PS3, watching movies, F1 and the odd TV show which I plan on watching / look forward to watching.

I hate watching nothing on TV, mindlessly sitting there watching advertisements. Internet catchup services are the way to go, but unfortunately not without their drawbacks such as poor quality (yes channel 4, i'm looking at you).

I went to uni in 1998 as well and didn't have a TV in my first year, that didn't stop me having one longer term though. I watch a lot more TV now than I did 10 years ago, that's for sure. Main reasons I have a TV:

-You can't get PC monitors of a comprable size
-Ease of use with Sky+ HD
-Better quality than my internet connection is capable of streaming
-Doesn't use any internet bandwidth
-Plenty of shows I like watching (live sport in particular)
-Means my wife can watch TV while I'm using my computer
-More sociable relative to PC-based solutions i.e. if we have friends round and want to play on Wii or something

edit: Slightly OT but like the OP I used to just watch DVDs on my PC, got a drive around 2000 and didn't get a DVD player until I was gifted one in 2006.

Not had a TV for about 15 years or more and before that was only ever used for Games Consoles, just doesn't interest me enough to A: Buy a big screen TV and B: Pay the Nazis at TVLicensing who have accused me every Month for years and years of being a criminal for simply choosing to not own a television set... Anything I do want to see is available online (One way or another..) And DVD/BRays are watched on my 27" Monitor, what's bigger to look at - A 27" screen that's less than 2' away from you, or a 50" screen that's probably 6' or more away?

My TV is only used for Games Consoles really. It has no aerial in it. I haven't used it to watch actual TV shows in a very long time.

Nowadays I'll just use stuff like iPlayer and 4oD to watch show's on the terrestrial channels when i want. I might also have TVCatchup on from time to time while im on the PC.

You had any home visits or just letters?

I had 1 home visit and never heard from them again. As far as I can see most people who get letter after letter never follow the instructions on how to get them to stop. Just fill out the online form and let the vist take place and they should stop.

Did you let them in or just hunt them?

I did think about hunting them but the person who came was polite so I let him in. He didn’t walk around the house just asked a few questions. I said I had no TV in other rooms and he filled out some forms and that was it. Not had anything in years off them, no letters or more visits. I was surprised has easy and fast it all was.

I don't own a TV and watch the majority of what I watch through my computer, but I do have access to a TV if I can 'book it' :p The only thing I make a real effort to watch live and on a TV is the F1.
