Who doesn't own a telly?

Am I the only one who watches their online content on a proper sized TV instead of a pidily tablet/monitor?

Nope I put all mine through my 37" tv, no point having that staring at me while I watch things on my 15" laptop.

Funny how most people here proudly saying they don't have a TV actually watch the same stuff just downloaded or via legal streaming on their pc/laptop etc.

So you don't have a TV, but you watch "TV" just in a worse format and generally on a worse screen.

Odd.

I stream my content to my TV so I don't really lose out :)

Plus I can watch it when I want rather than at specified times.

How is it odd? How is the format worse or screen worse? If anything the screen is better and format just as good or better. Generally speaking monitors are much higher quality screens then TV’s. Watching TV online is getting more common just look at the millions that opted to watch Doctor Who last weekend online and in full HD with no worse quality. There is zero advantage to watching TV over online or via disk.

For me not having a TV is a practical matter. I have large nice IPS screen fitted to a nice 7.1 sound system on my PC. I figured why spend xxx amount on a TV system then repeat it all for the PC when I could just have one system. Then I thought why get a TV licence when I can just spend that money on box sets for the shows I like and watch when I like without adverts or watch them after live via Iplayer.

What seems odd to me is still using an old style TV system. Tablets streaming in HD to a TV or PC seem far better to me.

One guy I work with used to have a TV but he didn't watch it and his two girls were allowed to choose one program a week. The girls were a bit young then so they chose Britains Got Talent.

His new Mrs won't allow a TV at all and they watch the odd film on the computer. He also turns off his router when not in use because of the rays it gives off.

Another guy I work with will allow the children to watch TV but won't have one in the bedroom - its the rays you see, you don't know what its doing to them.

Both guys are particularly intelligent chaps but in both conversations I suggested that sitting at home with tinfoil hats would probably help. :)

I think you've come from the wrong angle like I did.
Nobody in here is saying "Lol, TV programmes, they are crap, I haven't watched TV programmes for 70 years" etc.
I now realise that this is a 'Do we really need proper TVs now with the alternative methods we can watch TV programmes' thread.

I don't own a television as such, but rather an LG22" on Sky HD :p
Although I completely understand where you're coming round, that said the UK services for streaming aren't all that compared to the USA etc.

Buying DVD's/Blu-rays is fine, but they're not exactly cheap considering the price of a TV package/Streamed service.

Unless you use USA streaming services ;)

I have a TV, which I use to watch content on from my PC. In 42" goodness, so any arguement about not owning a TV but they watch it on the internet is null and void.

You own a 'TV' as such.

My telly is nothing more than a doorstop these days. I installed a TV card in my PC back in May & since then its hardly been on because I watch telly on my PC. There's no digital tuner in it so that part of it useless & I've not long Cancelled Sky because I hardly watch it now & I can't justify paying the monthly subs for it anymore.

I don't actually watch any TV on it, but I do watch Netflix and Blurays etc, so I do watch TV content on it. My TV is much better than my monitors so I use that. Also gaming is much better. Whilst I do not watch TV on it, I would never get rid of it, and if it died I would replace it with another....In truth though it is basically just used as a big monitor.

Growing up in SA didn't get much English TV, one channel mnet which was very good subscription tv. Got satellite at age 13 but around 16 (year 2000) I stopped watching tv. I have never purchased a TV or owned a TV myself. I have never paid for a tv license or paid for subscription TV. Got my first broadband in 2005. While I was in certain living conditions over the past 12 years I have had no other option to watch TV at times. But I was always complaining and even now if i go to family for xmas and get stuck watching TV. I just moan the whole time about the adverts, the programming, the people, i end up changing channel to the news and then muting it and eventually just turn it off altogether and sit in silence.

I recently found a website that streams all tv programs and sport events illegally and I have been using that on the rare occasion to watch a football match. But I won't buy sky just to watch the odd match.

I went to uni in 1998 as well and didn't have a TV in my first year, that didn't stop me having one longer term though. I watch a lot more TV now than I did 10 years ago, that's for sure. Main reasons I have a TV:

-You can't get PC monitors of a comprable size

well i use a 26 tv in main room ... so a 27 monitor is more than equal ... and a lot of flats tend to have small tvs . and older people who maek up about 50% of our population

although i do have 47" in my "utility room " :D

I love my tv. Probably watch it around 2hrs a day on weekdays and 4hrs on the weekend.

The wife watches sky+ recorded shows and I tend to use it to watch blurays or for the media centre.

In our house we have 4 TVs and the PC 24" monitor. Is this thread meant to make me feel bad for that? ;) I didn't win the lottery last time I checked. We have always had atleast 2 (one up one down) but kids = more.

I don't own a television, or a tv decoder card, the only programs that I watch are avaliable on-demand, and thus not subject to the tv license (at this time).

Haha, let's hijack this thread and make it a "Who has the most tellys" thread.

I also have 4 tellys in my house with HD piped around. However, the only things I watch live are the news and F1/Football. Everything else is on sky+.
