who enjoys and gets on with eyefinity?

I run eyefinity with a 6990+6970 tifire combo. I love it. But it has it's problems. DVS20 summed it up quite nice!

Now though, ATI have solved the stuttering in BF3 with crossfire/trifire and I now play with eyefinity. WOW! I mean, just WOW! I am so glad that I went down this route

Crossfire isn't a massive problem. I really cannot understand why people don't like it. Issues and modding is the reason we buy PCs! :)

I nearly went down the 5970+5870 route but i find it seems to be more problematic than using matching cards.

so the best bet would to get a new 27-30" monitor now and run it with my 480, then wait and see how the new 7900 series performs

also would it be wise to get a larger psu?

Issues involved cooling, poor GPU usage, finding the right CAP etc. But once solved, it is beautiful!

For the OP, I love my 6990. The early drivers issues are gone

And the 7990 will be out March/April at the earliest and will retail at around £600-700 at the start!

well 6990 are still at around £550-600 so i think ill wait and see what the 7990 has to offer then go from there :)

Interesting views from people above, you can see I run tri-fire and it's awsome... I'm running BF3 @5760x1080 at around 40fps with Ultra textures and HIGH on everything else... with 16xAF and zero AA etc.... looks glorious, really does... DIRT3 same res ULTRA settings maxed out, getting average of 42fps at that setting so result there as well, loks incredible that game.

For me, I can't go back to one monitor on BF3 at all, feels restrictive... all Id says is, if you run eyefinity, and you have two cars, you'll have lower game settings than when you play with one monitor as you're powering 3x the resolution with only two cards... hence I went trifire to compensate so it's just like having 1x6970 per screen! If I thought QUADfire worked I'd have picked up another 6990 instead BUT, only a couple of games I've seen even scale with it so...

Eyefinity is pretty awesome, it's like duel monitors, once you start playing with 3 monitors, you can't go back.

I play using 6970 at 5760x1080 on Ultra/Max settings with only a Q6600 and it's very playful, FPS ranges from 30 to 70 in BF3. Get better AVG FPS in BFBC2.

Source games and MW2/3 are a breeze.

Brezels ain't really a problem, like someone said before, you don't notice them when you playing.

The only negative I can say about Eyefinity is about Display Port and how annoying and buggy that port is. For example, switching one DP monitor off makes all the screen flash as they adjust and the monitor is removed from being a active desktop while you can switch off a DVI monitor and it still be classed as active. Turning on the DP monitor will make X or Y app jump to that screen.

Damn annoying.

shall i risk it and get 3 monitors then, and get a 6990 or 7990 depending on the price i can get one at

will i need a bigger psu than my 750w?

im planning on running eyefinity with a single 7970 sure the fps will be slower than a 6990 but smoother gameplay me thinks, do you know anyone with eyefinity that could let you try it to see if you like it first

Eyefinity is awesome. In my experience the haters aint even tried it lol

Get it you won't regret! :D

I use 3x24" 1920x1200, powered by 6950 CF, and I love it. All the friends I've shown my setup to have been impressed and one said he was dubious about it but now it's the next purchase he'll be making.

You do need powerful setup, though there are people running eyefinity off a single 5850 or 6870 - if you are willing to drop graphic settings it's certainly doable.

That said, if you want to raise AA, with all ingame settings at ultra, you are going to need something much beefier.

There are some older games that won't work in eyefinity, but they are few and far between.

An actual issue:
In eyefinity mode you have a massive taskbar running across the three monitors, with the start button at the far left and system tray at the far right. This is a pain. (Apparently the Feb or March CCC will correct this and allow you to set the taskbar on a single monitor). Until then, it's best to switch between eyefinity for games (where they treat all monitors as a single monitor), and extended mode for general windows mode (where programs see each monitor as a separate monitor).
It's easy to set this up with a hotkey to switch between them, or to use RadeonPro to give games an eyefinity profile so it switches tro eyefinity on launch and back when the game ends.

The bezels aren't a problem for me. Once bezel management is setup - the 3 monitors become a single window into the 3d world, and the bezels become like the bars at the edge of car windscreen and side windows: something you quickly stop noticing.

As some have said (but not enough imo) get a 7970!

If ur buying a 6990 new it is similar price or more and vs an over locked 7970 they are about equal but the 7970 has more VRAM whic as high res helps.

You also won't need to change ur psu (depending whether it's a good brand or not).

I would personally get a 27" or 30" hi-res monitor unless you can game on an eyefinity setup as a test.

But deffo a 7970 imo.....

Q6600 3.44Ghz, Gigabyte X48-DS5, 8GB OCZ PC6400 5-4-4-12, ATi Trifire 6990+6970(880/5680), 1x120GB Crucial M4 SSD, 2x1TB Samsung F1 RAID-0, 1300W Hi-Power PSU, 5760x1080 eyefinity 3xBenQ 24", Windows 7 Ultimate

OFF TOPIC: With your setup is the q6600 bottlenecking ur performance?

I think it would. I have a guy with 2x6970s and an old i5 and he sees a massive bottleneck. He upped his CPU from default to 4.0GHz and saw a 15fps increase in BF3 1080p

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease upgrade your CPU or sell me the 6990 for £50! :) :)

I love eyefinity, really adds to driving games I find, it feels much faster and immersive.
Eyefinity is bad for normal use but extended displays are good. Switching between the two mode isn't hard as you can set up a shortcut key to switch so you dont have to faff :)
