who enjoys and gets on with eyefinity?

I used to have eyefinity (hd5970 + 3x24" monitors), really awesome experience and regret getting rid of it (currently contemplating getting it again).

You'll enjoy it and I would definitely recommend getting it.

I think it would. I have a guy with 2x6970s and an old i5 and he sees a massive bottleneck. He upped his CPU from default to 4.0GHz and saw a 15fps increase in BF3 1080p

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease upgrade your CPU or sell me the 6990 for £50! :) :)

Nope the CPU isn't bottlenecking at all, it does at 1920x1080p... according to the graphcs I have running in BF3, with the CPU line always higher therefore taking longer to process thus the bottleneck. However at 5760x1080 the GPU's as stupid as it sounds are the bottleneck by quite a bit...

Don't forget it's just like having 1 6970 per 1920x1080 screen... no matter what settings I use in BF3, the GPU's are the slow part fo the system... hence the thoughts of Tri 7970's...

Anyone want any eyefinity pictures of BF3/Dirt 3 at 5760x1080, with FPS and graphcs of performance etc let me know and I'll post now! Can also show you DIRT just to show what your missing, in actions it's 100% better than the picture shows!

I can recommend the 6990, iv had mine in my rig for 2 days now and its epic! Not nearly as loud as people make out while gaming, although setting the fan to 100% manually is an eye opener!!

If (as i did) you can get a used for for a decent price you realyl cant go wrong

Eyefinity is good, but i wouldn't go for quality as 2 of the screens you wont notice the difference, imo 3 TV's are better due to the size.

As for the PC.. well you will need a 6990 or 570's to run it at a decent fps and quality.

I'm actually planning on getting rid of my eyefinity as it doesn't provide a great experience in most games and to run it in games that support it natively you need a beast of a machine.

Cons:

Eyefinity on the desktop isn't as good as extended desktop, so I find myself chopping and changing between windows and games (not a quick process, need to set up / arrange each time)

Just setup profiles which switch between extended (normal desktop use) and Eyefinity (gaming) at the touch of a button. Once setup it takes seconds to switch.

I absolutely love my Eyefinity setup. However, I run Portrait Eyefinity instead of Landscape Eyefinity as I found the stretching too much in the latter mode.

If you do go for Eyefinity make sure you get monitors that can rotate so you can get the best of both worlds or run mixed mode.

Mixed mode allows to to run a mixture of Portrait and Landscape in extended desktop mode. This allows 1080p (or 2160p) gaming on the centre monitor whilst the other monitors are run in Portrait mode which is perfect for most websites / a lot of productivity.

In terms of gaming, you do need a lot of GPU grunt if you want either high FPS or max settings. However you can get away with a single top end GPU (HD6970) as long you don't mind turning down some settings.

I run a single HD6970 at 3560x1920 and TBH I haven't found anything I can't play with some sacrifices. BF3 runs fine at Medium / High settings (No AA) at roughly 30-40fps depending on the Map.

A move to a HD7970 does look like it is on the cards.

I disagree entirely. Your CPU cannot cope with the information being sent to it by the 3xGPUs or vice versa at eyefinity resolutions. I promise you that an investment in 3x7970s will lead to the same thing.

Do what you wish but you have been warned!

Used to have 3x dell u2410 in eyefinity, was clearly vram and bad driver limited so moved 480's in surround where the extra 500mb came in handy as well as more solid drivers. Unfortunately I just didn't get on with its problems or epic system requirements if you want to go all out on settings. So I settled for a 1440p 27" which is a huge visual step up from a 1200p 24".

I may dig the screens out again once I migrate from my current gpu setup but I can honestly say that a huge single screen has the benefit of working in every game without problems or bezels and still being very immersive/impressive.

Been running eyefinity for a couple of weeks now and I really enjoy it. Don't really spend anytime actually looking at the other screens but just them being in my peripheral vision makes some games feel really immersive. I especially like Portal 2 and Hard Reset. Skyrim is good also.

I'm running 6870cf powering 3 x 24" screens.

I run evefinity on 3 x 22" Samsung Pebble monitors and they work a treat on BF3 with my 6950 flashed to 6970 spec. Never going to max it out and so I don't overclock so I can put down my crappy BF3 scores to 30fps as an excuse.

I used to run three 12" screens off a Matrox analogue splitter and once hooked it is now three screens or nowt for me, but as posted you do need some serious horsepower to drive them. Since I would need a new PSU and 6950/70 for CF, if I added the cost to the value of the 6950 I would be on the rumoured 7970 price and without CF worry, so am watching this space like the rest of you.

I set up eyefinity over Christmas on my 6970 and 3x22" monitors. Absolutely love it, can't imagine going back to one screen now even tho I do have to sacrifice graphic settings a bit for smooth framerates, but the immersion is completely worth it especially if you play a lot of driving games.

I am considering a gpu upgrade now tho which I never had any intention of before going eyefinitey so thats one downside, it may end up costing me a lot more than I initially planned.

That Q6600 his defo holding up his computer, good cpu in it's day but it's dated and slow. Time to go sandybridge or ivybridge mate, you will see a notable difference by upgrading that 6600.

Though gaming is not my main concern(I have multi monitor for productivity reasons), I have obviously had a go, I'm running at 5760x1200 with a single DirectCU II 6950 2GB, surprisingly the games I have all play quite well at this resolution, the DirectCU is absolutely fantastic I think, virtually silent, barely makes any more sound at load and the connectivity is fantastic, I've 3 monitors connected via DisplayPort and one via DVI, this is a smaller 20" that for the most part is turned off. Games I play in eyefinity are;

Unreal Tournament 3
Grid
Dirt 2
TrackMania
FarCry
Deus Ex HR
Half Life 2

I've a couple of presets setup to switch between the Eyefinity and Extended Desktop configs and it works a treat,

regards,
J.
