Hedge - it doesnt sound as though you should even require plans for that build? Sounds like permitted development and a basic construction. Just build in matching materials and take the builders/LABC advice as to how it will go up.

I did the same a couple of years ago for a rear 8m*5m single storey extension. No need to over complicate.

Also, if any neighbours have done the same or similar, you can always plagiarise their plans from the online planning portal and adapt to suit yours or just run those through your builder to give them the idea.

So should I just contact a few builders with my idea in mind and let them price up?
Thats what i would do/did. If its just a basic obvious approach "lean to" extension with 3 walls and rafters running down from the rear of your house to the new wall plate then there is no real need to complicate it. Copy materials from the main house to exactly match, and i don't see where your own made up design would really differ from any other options.
