Who is going to get a Pascal Titan X ?

I'm serious, if it's under £1k why not? Big Vega probably won't be here for another year, my 290 is showing its age now, why buy the mid range 1080 as it's going to drop in price soon on the second hand market, I've never owned a Titan, I could buy one for a few months to tide me over til Vega and still sell it and get a Vega from the cash no?

Everyone keeps saying they enjoyed their Titan for a while before buying the next card and still got enough cash to pay for the card. It's kinda like an investment, decent fps while you wait for what you really want with minimal hit on resale?

It certainly isn't an investment lol but I look forward to seeing you with one.

I figure it like this, if its costs me £1k, lasts me 6 months or so til big Vega comes and i get back around £750 for it, and say Vega costs around that much, i basically enjoyed gaming at the top for the price of a 480.

My current 290 has little resale value so either way i gotta spring out fairly largely for the big Vega.

Surely the titan X will be maximum throttling edition...

The 1080 FE already has a problem with this, and that is a 180w TDP card, the titan X will have very similar cooler but is 250w TDP.

I guess most people who want a titan X would also put watercooling on it.

Not sure what you are referring to there... most 1080 cards run at 60-65C under load at 60% fan speed and have no issue with throttling. The throttling trouble only seems to affect a handful of cards, so that would be differences in the chip / cooler mounting / thermal paste spread/contact.

The TPX will run hotter for sure... but even the same cooler should easily handle keeping it under 90C

No they don't the founders edition cards get up to 84c. The titan X will be founders edition only going from previous titans. The founders edition 1080 do not run at 60-65c at 60% fan I have no idea where you got that idea.

All the reference edition throttles, they isn't any special editions that don't. People have reduced the throttling by increasing the fans speed, making the GPU sound like a jet engine.

Uhhhh... no.

Neither of my cards has ever reached 84C... even the top card when overclocked and running under load for hours. My case isn't even good for airflow (bequiet base 800).

My top one tends to sit at 70C and the bottom about 65C... that is with a custom fan profile, but the fan speed rarely exceeds 60% and never more than 65%.

Even at 60%, the fans on these are quieter than Titan X / 980Ti at 40%

I have seen a number of reports about a small handful getting to high temps and throttling, but that is the minority - not the majority.

Even now I've been in a game for a few hours (although relatively low GPU load) and the top card has sat at 59C, with the bottom card at 45C... fans hitting 60%

And that's in 30C ambient temps.

The cards run quieter and cooler than the last generation, noticeably.

The reports I've seen of AIB cards are doing even better for temps...

No, they simply do not.

The FE cards will fall off boost when reaching the temperature target. The cooler simply can't dissipate the heat without adjusting the fan curve. The noise was doing my head in so I opted for water as per usual

Do you live in the Arctic? On water my nano reached 70c today:)

Love my titan black sli but the titan series will be a no from me from now on. Its going to be either nvidia Ti series or whatever high end ati bring out.

All I can say is the cooler on the 1080 FE is not really good enough for the 180w 1080, the titan X is 250w TDP card so that will be throttling central with the titan X.

Think a lot who buy Titan X will be putting it under Water anyway.

Yeh I think I already said that, but on the FE cooler I do not think it will be that good, because a lot of the 1080's run at 2Ghz out of the box, With a waterblock it will probably be very good.

If it was know nvidia would release an Aoi cooler for the pascal Titan x I would be very very tempted. After having aio cooled gpus I just can't see myself wanting to go back to fan cooled ever again

On water all 4 of my FXs overvolted and overclocked only hit about 36C.

And I believe you but it was over 32c in my house today and my miniITX PC is in a AV cupboard and is also connected to my CPU... What's your point? Actually I don't believe you... Are you saying they all don't go over 36c on a day like today?

Oh this was whilst playing games for over 2 hours and not doing a small amount of stress testing on 3dmark, which is what you mainly do:)

Minimal hit on resale? Ask the folk selling Titan X's for £400 about minimal resale!
