Who knows about windows (Double Glazing)?

I love my triple glazing, I don't really live anywhere noisy apart from the steam engines on the weekends 1/2 a mile away but you stand in the room and the silence is deafening, if I could take them out when I move I would, seriously don't want to leave them for someone else to enjoy and don't think I could afford another set at today's prices.

Yes they are that good.

I have 4 very nice high end windows. They where installed and then removed because I wanted Aluminium and not UPVC.

If anyone wants them they can have them if they make a £50 donation to charity.

Just got a call from the window company. They have got all my windows in and they will be in tomorrow to install. That's 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

Can't wait to see how much difference triple glazing makes.

I would be interested to see what difference you see over what you had before.
If you don't mind me asking how much did they set you back in the end and what exactly did you get for the money?

I went with a local company and I got 4 windows (2 large and 2 small) using the Duraflex system and I paid £1500 for them. So not cheap but not stupid expensive.

The jury is out on the heat retention as it's only been a few days and it was cold when they were installing them so it will take a while to get the heat back into the bricks. So far it looks promising though.

Sound proofing is honestly disappointing. They cracked one of the windows when they were installing it so it may make a difference once they have replaced it but I don't think it will.

Did you go for the 44mm triple glazing or 28mm? I was expecting it to be amazing judging by the comments in this thread...

Could possibly be that the cams on the window locks need adjusting to give a better seal though. Are the handles really easy to shut?

I went for the 44mm units and the handles are quite hard to turn.

There is however a 5 - 10mm gap between the bottom of the window and the window sill that I'm going to question them about.

On the outside? That will be the secret drain to allow water to drain out of the frame. If you look closely in the gap, there should be some drain holes on the bottom of the window frame.

Just as an FYI for folks, got 70mm Rehau double glazing in 7 windows, £2100, very well done, workmanship v good, def notice a heat and noise improvement from my 30+ year old Everests (which apparently cost £7000 way back then).

Ive just been quoted £2500 and £2700

for 2 large windows
1 medium (120wide)
and a set of french (2500) or sliding (2700) doors

That seem expensive?
