Who ordered one?, (HD2900XT)

Aaargh I keep swaying between a GTS 640Mb and an X2900XT. I have a 22" WS Monitor and I will be gaming in 1680 x 1050 as a result, and would like nice eye candy.

GTS or 2900XT? Please God someone decide for me.

its another vote for the gts - i have had the evga acs3 for 2 months now and it plays everything on full.

I ordered one as well, if later reviews shows good crossfire performance i'll get one more :D .
Some people think it's a gamble but I do think this card has a lot of potential and it will be great with my futuere 24" monitor and HD player.
Can't wait for tomorrow, I just hope the reported noise levels aren't too bad :p

if they are you can always just run it on water and push the envelope out a bit :)

Tom|NBK, its only close at the lower resolutions, at decent res and AA/AF it gets pretty hammered by a GTX.
I hope for you and ATi's sake it improves with drivers, but I can't see it making enough of a difference at the higher settings.
I would love to be proved wrong, being as I prefer ATi for driver support, and I hope you have fun with it, but for me it wasn't anywere near in my sort of settings.

Will the gts 320mb be enough memory for the new upcoming games???

I've been told by quite a few that it wont!! :(

Or do I go for the 640mb gts or the 512mb 2900????

Help

Thanks

Water, with a pc, that doesn't make sense :p !
Hmmm, watercooling, now that's an idea, well, we shall see how the cards are when people start receiving them tomorrow and wednesday.

bearing in mind these are pre alpha drivers

By definition they can't be pre-alpha drivers if they are being issued to 3rd parties (reviewers). They have to be beta, at least.

When is ATIs next driver update?

The 8.38 drivers are an early beta 2 release, they were leaked. Those drivers have more issues with them than the 8.37.4 in several cases. CrossFire and OpenGL in Vista are messed up, IQ has been reduced in several cases also until they tune it. ATI does not want the review sites using those drivers until the final release on 5/23.

In 9 days > 8.38 Final.

they are stated as beta drivers in some of the articles i think guru3d was one

I think the trouble is some people just throw around the words "alpha" and "beta" without really knowing what they mean. For example Firingsquad (a site I regard very highly) reckon they were testing using an alpha driver. But alpha testing refers explicitly to testing done on the developers site, not tests run externally.

Not strictly true, they sometimes release it to the press and manufacturers with very early sample versions of the products afaik
i dont know about this launch specifically but i remember it was done on a competitor site so cant link, with the Sapphire X1950 Pro Dual 1GiB (the one with the Radeon 1950XT's mounted on the same PCB)

The card will get better, every review has stated so far they have found oddities due to the pre mature drivers 2900 will beat the GTS in most games and be close to beating the GTX also in the near future.

Im confused by that, if those 8.37.4.2's are the best drivers, why have they stuck those poor 8.37.4.3's up on the site for download, surely they would want there best drivers out.

prob gonna get one when I go to USA when term is over, would get one now but wouldn't use it until end of june anyhow when I move back home. Kinda toying with the idea though of getting a GTS and a HD 2600 for the HTPC, or just getting a HD 2900XT and dumping my X800XL into the HTPC for now...most likely ill get the 2900XT though!
