LOL, as do 50% of this board, Im waiting for him to start blabbing about Rainbow 6 Vegas.
tbh you should read the main thread, the supposid "50%" are yet to proove that the difference is more than £20

If the argument is performance against wattage fine, but saying the cost difference between the 2 is huge is plain wrong

I personally buy whichever card i think is the best at the time be it Nvidia or Ati, between the GTS and the 2900 it is a pretty close call to be honest.

Leadtek 8800GTS 640MB, £215 inc. VAT at 17.5%.
I found a 2900XT for £234, but i cant say where as my other post have been deleted comparing it to the cheapest 8800GTS so i wont post models etc and there was another site selling it for £214 ex vat but they sold out within the day

I dont understand this fan issue tbh :P I mean how can it seriously be made quieter during load etc through software? Well it cant! They sacrifice the speed of the fan to cut the noise then they increase the already very high temps!

As with the last gens of ATi Cards, hope for a Zalman to come out for it lol!

£234 including VAT? I suggest you buy a dozen and make a killing.

Are you sure the VAT's not added at the checkout?

More like £274.95

234 including VAT?. Was this site a well known site?, I'd be a bit skeptical buying from someone selling it that low.

Just a quickie....

Im in Blackpool right now, and going home today will be going right past Overclockers on the M6. Just wondering.... if I have a sudden urge to buy a HD2900XT, do Overclockers have a purchace & pickup facility?

Cheers.

So more like £70 then, more with delivery. And removing the game value doesn't count, suppose I don't want the game? They going to discount it for me? The GTS has games as well btw. So yeah it costs a bit more, its new. Prices will go down, then you'll have your £20 difference.

Seemed worth it to me, card comes with games bundle worth around £20 so that's already £20 off the price, which means its around £40 more expensive than a GTS or just as expensive or least expensive than a few atm, decided ill give the card a go, it's right up the GTX backside in some games and beats the GTS at 1600x1200 in quite a few, bearing in mind these are pre alpha drivers I feel the card will mature a whole lot more, so does every reviewer.

I do agree with you, the drivers are likely to get better (pretty much always do for new cards) & performance will improve.

If i had a larger screen i would get one right now, but will likely wait a little bit longer before i get a DX10 card.

I think im going to get one as it comes with the steam voucher for HL2:Ep2 team fortress 2 and portal which is worth about 30 pounds itself

Is that for every 2900XT card regardless of brand, as those games are something i will get anyway, so might just entice me.

It's kinda funny how people praised the HD2900XT to come in and have great drivers while the 8800 series would lag behind with its driver support.

Low and behold ATi drivers still need some fine tuning even after hard launch.

At least it supports Vista out of the box, or have everyone forgotten how Nvidia had to remove Vista ready stickers from the 8800 series!!! :p (fanboy mode off!)
And the drivers are still pretty good I think, at least the card manages to get very stable performance and looking at reviews, 8.36 vs. 8.37 drivers showed a remarkable increase in performance, so my money still went with Ati again.
I found it extremely impressive that I have the exact same framerate under Vista as I had under XP and that's in 2 months (2 updates) with my X1950pro.
Arrgghh, i'm sick to the bone of trying to defend this card, I end up sounding like a fanboy :(
