Who owns an iPod alternative?

I've got a Sony NWZA828KB 8GB, had for 3 years now.

Reason for getting the sony was the sound was soo much better then the ipod and plus drag and drop plus battery lasts ages !! :D

My MP3 player history goes

Zen Touch > Zen Vision M > Zen > iPhone 3G > Sansa Clip+ (Rockboxed) > Samsung GS2

Out of them all I have to say I loved the Zen Vision M the most, sold it on here a couple of years ago or so. Although the SGS2 with Power Amp is pretty awesome.

Sansa Clip + here, wanted something small and lightweight for running/riding that wouldn't get in the way and was a far sight cheaper than most else and works perfectly for me.

ive had sony, iphone, creative mp3 players and currently have a 30gb zune (from the mm).

really surprised at how nice the zune is and it also has a very nice sound to it (sony earphones)

ill be getting a iphone soon and do like the sound from the iphone and it's nice to have a phone which has a nice sound when playing music.

my choice would be the iphone over everything else.does what i want it to do :)

Yeah the drag and drop music management in other devices makes a massive difference to having to use iTunes although I'd seriously consider going back to an iPod if I didn't have to pander to Apples control freak environment. Beautiful devices and interface although it could do with an EQ...

It doesn't matter if the iPod was the best on the market and cheaper than any competitors. People will always say something bad about it simply because it's Apple.

Or perhaps because Apple are so content to limit it? It would be an awesome device (more than it already is) if they let it.

My first mp3 player was an iRiver H320, then used a Sony A818, I was very anti-iPod back then. Now I have an iPod Classic and an iPhone 4, funny how things change.
Pretty much my purchase history but instead of the Classic I tried the Zen Stone Plus. I wouldnt touch the Apple stuff til they improved the sound quality and when it was adequate enough having a single device just made sense to me...

My iP4 coupled with some Shure 315s headsets is perfect for my usage...

ps3ud0

8GB sansa clip+ / 16GB micro SDHC card. that's 24GB for less than 60 quid. how much storage would i get with an ipod costing the same money? i'd be lucky to get a 4GB shuffle....

and it's not just capacity either:

i have a screen (pretty sure the shuffle doesn't have one)
no need for itunes
superior codec support
i can run a 3rd party firmware called rockbox which is amazing (although to be fair so can some older ipods)
loads of people say the sansa sounds better but i haven't listened to an ipod so can't comment

It does make me wonder how much Apple make of individual iPod sales and how much each user subsequently pays back to them in terms of music and app purchases.

another 8gb Sansa clip user here.
really like the clip. Had an Ipod nano but don't like how I had to use Itunes :)

I've had a few Creative ones including a Nomad Jukebox and MuVo. Still occasionally using a Sansa E280.

Had an Ipod years ago, but upgraded to a Zune 80gb and never looked back, it is superior in every way to the equivalent Ipod.

Had a creative zen stone, then a cowon D2 (i dropped it and the on/off switch snapped) Now i have a Cowon S9. I wouldn't get any apple products, not for any reasons in particular i just think they are ugly.

My Grandfather bought an ipod for audio books, the sales guy persuaded him to buy it even after he was informed that he only has 56k dial up (he just doesn't use the internet) and that no, his laptop did not have itunes installed. Several frustrating days later he returned it for a refund and bought an alternative that worked out of the box without the need for a 100meg+ download.

I have a Sansa Fuze 8gb which I got because it was far cheaper than an iPod, I hate iTunes with a vengeance, has a MicroSD card slot, plays FLAC and Ogg, has an FM radio (which iPods needed a module for at the time) and was a decent brand so I know it would be alright. Not regretted it.

I have a 512mb usb thumb stick shaped one I use in the kitchen while im cooking and a 40GB 1.8" hdd one that looks kinda like an original iPod (its older than the iPod) thats used for everything else.

My reason is simple, im not an idiot, I don't need itunes or sonys equivalent or etc to sort my music, in fact I detest the software, I like an MP3 player that I plug into any machine and it comes up as a hdd allowing me to drag and drop copy music to/from it and then allows me to browse the files by folder. I have no need to "sync" my music because Its only kept on the mp3 player, if I want to play it on pc/car/ps3 then the player is hooked up to that.

I use a 4gb zen stone with a pair of gx200. Small and has good battery life, only problem is i lost it about a month ago :(
