Who should you go, if you want a website made?

I do offer a lot more professional design but over time I come to realize not everyone can afford a full blown website when they first step into the web,

EDIT i took this part out, read it and looked like i was advertising again Sorry EDIT

it not because I am "crap" lol, as you kindly put it above

I'm not trying to say you're a crap designer but even at £200 for the websites you said they are un-semantic, don't validate, low use of graphics, graphics that are there do not seem of the highest quality and you use VERY dated items such as a scrolling text marquee?!

Personally I don't offer a "£200 service" as I'd rather have £200 less in my pocket than be showcasing a website that looks like it was made in the 90s by a teenager.

I'd love to be proved wrong if you can show me some of your more professional/upper market services but if you are including scrolling text marquees even for a 50p design you must be stuck in the past and building things that are out of date before they are even uploaded.

lol, what do you expect for 200

the scrolling text, that is a stock ticker from some company my clients pay, they choose what they want it to look like and i make it happen, my job is to give my clients what they want, if they are happy then i am happy lol, its all money and it all spends the same :)

good point Draeger, i have remove the post and gave a reason, sorry again

OFF topic,

how do i remove an account because i created the above account because i sent a pw reminder but i got a return mail saying admin box was full so i created the above account,

i have since remembered my login details as you can tell from my signup date and number of posts lol

haha, have actually just finished putting a news scroller on a client's site too. Why, because that's what they wanted :)

Lol, exactly. Where I work, our sites start at £1200. We take the same attitude; we don't want work out there that looks rubbish and might put potential clients off.

The forum rule seems to be:

You may not promote any website or business you have a financial or other interest in, or use the popularity of this community to help build one of your own. The forums are here to allow people to freely share knowledge, not provide them with personal financial gain, or free advertising.

I do not build websites myself but know 11 multimedia graduates, as friends not business partners, who are all able to build websites. I know I'm new to this forum but I would have thought that if web developers putting their own personal website in their forum signature is more likely to break that rule than I have.

Question regarding this, don't know if it would be classed as breaking the rules or not:

I can understand, say, member "OverclockingDude87" (made up) coming in and promoting himself as a web designer and charging £200 for a site, that this would be probably against the forum rules.

However, as someone myself who is 'useless' at designing websites and would LOVE a nice, simply website to be made for me, would it be against the rules for the following:

To have someone who is not in the business of designing/developing websites and would like to get their foot in the door.
To perhaps use someones business (there are many on this forum who are freelance/self employed) to promote what they can do.
NO exchange of money, something like Joe Bloggs designs a website for Bob Smith and Joe says "Here you are, a website I designed for you for no charge" and Bob says "Thanks, looks lovely, I'll show off your work on my site for no charge"

Dunno, just think there's a lot of talent in this place and there's a hell of a lot of people who's talent is probably wasted doing something they don't enjoy.

- Wordpress. -
If you have your own web hosting, it should be no problem to put Wordpress up there. There are some very easy things (setting a static homepage, removing sidebar etc.) to change that give you a simple & flexible website. Then you can find/buy themes to suit. It'll always scream 'Wordpress!' to anyone who sees it, which isn't very professional, but it depends what you want the site for.

5UB - have to agree with most of the sentiments here. The amount you're looking to spend simply isn't in the bespoke range, I'm not saying you should spend more, but think about your approach.

For that price, you'll do far better with a 'site out a can' style approach and losing a bit of the specialism/personalisation.

If you've got £2 for a steak, you buy a burger - cos if you get a steak for £2, you'll not want to be eating it! ;)

However if you would like me to check out any sites/portfolios, let me know and I'll be happy to help you separate the wheat from the chaff!
