Who with a 8800 series is getting R600?

A little scared are we Easy :D.

Well I had a moment of clarity a few days back after testing most of the C2D range.

£650 chips are not worth it.Hell 4mb cache chips over the 6300/6400 are not worth it IMO.The performance at the same clock speed is just not there lol.

And I'm not scared I just wanna time it right lol!

But dare I say it I might sit this one out! :D

Yeah I agree,

Chasing the dragon is getting boring! :p

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that spending hundreds on PC hardware is futile.

Agreed.

I've been there myself mate. It got to the point where spending a few hundreds pounds on 'upgrades' every month or so for a few percentage increase in performance kinda got worrying tbh. After years of 'addictive' upgrading and trying to stay ahead of the game I'm finally content with my current system, and will be for the foreseeable future.

Although that been said. I am in need of a new g-card [SMACKS HAND] so will be buying a R600 if it is significantly faster than a G80, but for a change I won't be buying it on launch day when it's pretty much guaranteed to be overpriced.

come off it, you're having a laugh. the 8800gtx Is the best available, and 2gb gskill/e6600 is pretty much damn top notch. you're kidding yourself if you think it isnt.

What he said, that's one of the best computers money can buy. Period.

Errm no, I only upgrade when I'm not satisfied with current performance. I consider upgrades just for the sake of having the fastest pretty lame and only for those with a tiny penis. :p

its not about that,

It purely financial. :p

Shocky-FM said:
And? There hardly the "best" available are they.. They werent at the time of purchase and there definitely not now so how does that compare exactly?

LOL

Your pc is top end thats it,

Dont say it isnt when it is. ;)

Your missing the point, my system is not the best but the same type of users who would be making the upgrade to R600 are the type that would be upgrading my system to quadcore, i680, 8500 memory, raptors and other pointless purchases.

680i is overated
8500 ram is not needed as good 6400 will clock past this,

Quad core is not worth £650 and is only useful for encoding.
By the time games need four cores there will be Q6300's out!

Upgrading from 8800 GTX is not bragging rights.Never has been for me.

Im going to be strong and try and keep my opty setup for ages, carnt go wrong with a server processor, resisted the move to conroe, and after playing on conroe on a mates pc, there's not all that much difference :)

As for gfx, my 2x7900gtx sli will just have to manage I guess ;) runs UFO enemy unknown at 8059430 FPS, so its ok :D

Good for you, :)

However backing up DVD's an my mates opty @ 2.8ghz makes me want to kill myself! :p

I know what you're trying to say, but they are all things that are of very little use to us right now. as easy found out with his quad core. for raw speed and games performance, there's nothing better. the only people doing better than you are the people using two 8800's, and c2d's are still massively powerful for everything else:)

Ah yes 'backing up dvds' ;) I eer buy mine so i eer have the originals so don't need the old backing up going on, im just careful with the disc :D :p Reckon I could get many original dvds for the price of a quad core pc :p

Again your missing the point, users who make these stupid upgrades are not doing it because they need the performance increase or are unhappy with the performance. Their doing it because they just want the best available regardless of cost.

You have upgraded from 8800GTX?

I meant all my upgrading has not been for bragging rights lol

But I have seen the light.

Mobos costing 200 quid are not worth it.They clock no better than 70 quid mobos with current C2D.

This does not make a 200 mobo the best just because it cost the most.

I would argue the best Mobo for C2D at this moment in time in terms of price stablity and clocking is the DS3.

conroe3.jpg

Faster clock for clock than the 680i in my experience. And it costs 110 quid less.

Higher FSB with quad cores and C2D both the 2MB and 4MB versions.

The crutch for me was realising that the 200 quid mobo I forked out good money for was FSB limited to 312 on the 680i....and Quad cores...THIS IS A JOKE.

It got me thinking.

I installed the 4300 and 6300 and began clocking getting better results and similar speeds to that of the 6600/6700 again that were costing 100's more.

So price does not mean the best.I have proved this to myself and my wallet has taken a battering in the process...

You live an learn :p

And Rendering in 3dsmax ;)
Which is why I'm hoping I'll be able to afford a quad core in the summer :p

You feeling ok not wanting to upgrade though easy? :D ;)

Yes you live and learn. I think most of us eventually, at least the wiser ones, come to the conclusion that maintaining the bleeding edge is pointless. I still buy and sell if there's a big jump. But for a few percentage points, um no. I'll upgrade to the R600 if it has major advantages. The other thing I'm thinking is there should be quite a few cheaper second hand GTX's around so I can SLi mine. For me its game driven, I want the highest settings possible and no slow downs to bring me out of the experience. Then again sometimes I just get bored and want to play with a new toy.
