whoes upgrading to socket 2011 when its out and what are you upgrading from ??

I hope you've all been saving your pennies:

You'll be turfing up the sofa cushions for pennies too when you learn of the first batch silicon available.
Apparently when overclocked the motherboards have a safety feature to stop the processor from becoming self-aware

*SOrry, just made that up, on both counts, but who knows the silicon thing might come true :), it's been done with the 2700*
:D

Not really.

With the OcUK batch of i7-2700K's they seem to perhaps overclock slightly further or use slightly lower volts for a given overclock than an i7-2600K.

Not worth the cost of upgrading from my i7-2600K.

We'll have to see what the new S2011 chips do but for what they're likely to cost the performance difference would have to be substantial to make it worth upgrading from an i5-2500K, i7-2600K or i7-2700K.

Still on a core 2 3GHz here so hoping to go to 2011 with the cheaper of the two hexcores.

Any word on suitable coolers or are Intel shipping the liquid coolers with all SB-E chips?

For those that missed it....

Intel Core i7-3960X (Sandy Bridge-E) And X79 Platform Preview

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/core-i7-3960x-x79-performance,review-32272.html

I read that review above and went SB 2600k from my old Q9650 setup.. SB-E is only good for servers and workstations that do massive multi threaded data crunching and then the advantage of the quad channel memory kicks in.. It put me right off the SB-E after reading that and I was waiting for them to finally update the Q9650 setup.. To me they are too expensive for the performance gains they produce, in a business environment where time is money they maybe worth it.. Ohh well waiting for Haswell now and its "4 cores" again... Lets hope they are magic cores or Intel won't be seeing my money till they bring out 6-8 core CPUs that have a normal price tag on them, Ivy Bridge is going to be a max of 10% speed increase from SB and only reason I will think about upgrading to IVY Bridge is the Gen3 PCI-E if there is graphics cards that use it and show a benefit from having it.

Got a 990x already but may well end up with x79. Should be interesting having two powerhouse systems. It'll definitely come in handy for my work anyway.

Not sure yet,Im still on a i7 860 @ 3.8,8gb ram a 6950 2gb...so really should still be good for a while,Although with sandybridges doing 4.5+Ghz i might be tempted eventually.

I can recommend the Phanteks CPU cooler, its extremely good and supports 2011 out of the box.

Just looking at the review on toms hardware and it doesnt seem worth upgrading to the new boards and cpus the 2600k runs as good in gaming there is not much difference between them both

I'm upgrading, and currently have a 980X @ 4.2GHz with 24GB RAM. I'll be getting a 3960X and 32GB very soon... and yes i do need that much RAM. Just need to decide on what motherboard.

Wish the CoolerMaster Cosmos 2 case was out already so i have something nice to put it all in.

Want to upgrade from socket 775 E8400 3GHZ dual core but don't have the coin. I know the upgrade will be insane and that my current hardware is bottlenecking my 5850 1GB. Costs something like £230 for mobo, ram and CPU though. Plus might need a new case, my current one is small, (Antec Sonata III) and the CPU is only 500W Earthwatts, or have the Wattage demands gone down now due to smaller die size?

So to summarize, would like to obviously, but don't have the coin really, want a motorbike in March and that will set me back a grand. Currently in 6th form, not working so parents pay for pretty much everything. Would be pretty cheeky to ask for a £250 upgrade when I'm getting a bike in March.

My disappointment with Bulldozer is leading me away to Intel from AMD , Gigabyte mother board GA-MA790FX-UD5P, 955 BE(C2)@ 3.92GHz 1.52V
So far I’ve purchased:
Intel i5-2500K.
AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3.
I am saving up to purchase a Crucial M4 256GB.
Bits from my current rig I will be using are:
G. Skill RipsawsX 8GB DDR3-1600.
ATI 5850 1GB(Crossfire) I will only replace when new PCi cards are out
CM90 II Advanced
1TB WD Caviar Black,
Asus Xonar Essence STX
BlackGold HD DVB-T2
Noctua-NH-D14
XFX 850W Black Edition
I have been Beta Testing for Microsoft since ME days back in 1999. I will not build my new Rig until I have a copy of Windows 8 to christen it.
