Who's downgraded?

You did....

Doesn't mean I'll not take the cash if offered. I put my GTX up someone offered the cash and I had the oppourtunity to take it and walk away with a bit of cash in my back pocket yea the money isn't a lot maybe but I barely use my rig for gaming these days therefore it was worth it this time where it wasn't worth selling my GTX when Easy said so a good few months back..

Just read post 31

Missed the true ethic of the easy shuffle.

lol

If everyone followed the way you work the world would become a very strange place fast.

I change hardware depending on my needs. I've released some tied up cash in un used hardware as my needs have changed.

Then don't justify 65 quid for nexr gen upgrades....

The thing you should have done is keep the GTX until it dies.

You have a 8800GT (a slower card ) Thats 117 here at ocuk...

and have downgraded for no gain.

Thats the bottom line.

Easy quit being a weirdo for once,

I didn't justify the 65 for next gen upgrades but merely said it may be put towards that and if so what is the problem with that?

I didn't downgrade for a gain. The clue is in the name 'downgrade' I don't play many games anymore, the main few being TF2 and BF2 which I have actually noticed no loss in performance, at least nothing noticeable and have walked away with some freed up cash.

I paid less for the 8800GT than it is is here at OcUK.

Just seems like a lot of time and effort, especially if you take into account you may have saved £65 now, but your new GT is likely to sell for less than your GTX would have done when you trade it in reducing the saving. Given the new 9800gtx is a 256 wide / 512mb memory compared to the 8800gtx 384bit / 768mb (which really starts to tell at high res), I'd guess the 8800GTX won't drop in price by much now second hand, especially as people start to pick up a second for SLi, where as the GT will of course sell second hand for less than you paid for it new. Given the spec of the rest of your machine it seems an odd decision at this point to go for lower performance for a saving of what in the end could be £30-£40 towards a new card that's likely to be £300+.

The only time it might have made more sense was back when the GTX still commanded a premium second hand price. As much as it pains me to say it, Easy is right this time :);)

Either way if you're happy and you have a good use for the cash you saved then great although tbh it sounds like you started the thread looking for reassurance you did the right thing. /shrug

Well that's great for you Tute, but I couldn't justify having a Ultra end card, I play TF2 and BF2 both of which fly along on the same level as my GTX did, or near enough.

No point keeping top end hardware if it's unused. I thought this was obvious

It didn't take any time and effort other than the five minutes to create the Ebay Ad

The GT and GTX both depreciate at the same speed, they certainly have thus far - it's all relative. I'll end up no worse off but instead - freeing some cash early like I have done. Freeing up cash is the price I have paid but I think if I don't use stuff may aswell free up the tied cash to put on something I DO need right now.

Lower performance in my case being 5 no 10 fps at the most. The performance loss really is negligable at this point, I expect that gap to close once I volt mod and I'll still be £65 better off.

So long as I pocketed cash from the GT downgrade it made sense to me :)

Lol!

Totally not the case it seems you're trying to push the reasons you've kept your GTX on to me and thinking it may apply in my circumstances when it doesn't.

What, like the GX2, better get upgrading then.

I knew someone would say this.

I'm not touching another nVidia card until the drivers are sorted, working properly, and get regular proper updates.

I loved my 8800GT, fantastic card, but i'll pass on the texture corruption thanks. :)

If thinking that makes you feel better then of course you're right.... :p

BTW, I edited my post above to be a little clearer although by then you'd already quoted me.

Whatever mate,

You miss the point now and you missed the point then.
