Now that we are within a few weeks of the new offerings of cards, was wondering who was going ot get what and when. (was gonna do a poll, but couldnt find options in post)

Who are going to be the 'Get it straight away, regardless' people and who is going to wait and see how they all stack up head to head?

Personally, I am in the latter camp (I'm free). Have been very excited by the specs of the cards, but would love to actually see how they stand up next to each other in real world apps and stuff.

Am getting tempted towards the AMD offering though, mainly because it may help to bump up my SETI work ;)

Waiting for the reviews, building a new desktop and left money aside for the new cards aiming to get a 4870 or GTX 260 depending on price/performance.

if a GTX280 can play Crysis at least 40fps 1920x1200 no FSAA (I use EdgeAA) DX10 very high then I will get one because a game that can play Crysis at that FPS at that res will play any game beyond 50fps!

Prolly either a 4870 1GB or GTX 260.

Unless the GTX 280 is closer to £300 than £400.

Same as you, but no way am i going to spend over £250 for a card.

You'll not be getting a Nvidia card then.......expect them to be £400 - £500

I don't know, people get spoilt nowadays.

My x800xt pe cost me £350 4 years ago which is about £400 in todays money.

My Tseung Labs 1mb graphics card cost me £400 in 1993 (I think) which is about £1000 in todays money  (my whole system cost me £2400 which is about £7000 today - I had more disposable income then:()

I know I will never pay £1000 for a gfx card again and I would think twice at paying £400 even cause I have been spoilt by the performance from an overclocked G92 8800 for £120 so unless the £400 card was going to give me at least 3 times the performance I just wouldn't get one as money is tight nowadays.

On the other hand if I had the money I used to, I wouldn't think twice at spending £500 on the new GTX 280.

which card do you guys think will be the best value for money?

going to upgrade my 8800gts... stored up a bunch of gift vouchers (£150) for the river place thanks to my Pokerstars frequent player points :). So if i can flog my old card for 50 quid (pessimistic? - it's only a 320mb model but I have the box and everything) I should be well on the way to one of these new puppies.

For me, I think a gtx 280 + p45 might be the way though I am worried that its replacement has already been taped out and I might hold out for one or two 4870X2's

well if in august they have 4870x2 im buying it

Agreed, although I need something now, so my plan as I see it at the moment, is a 4870 now (or in july, whatever) and coupling it to a 4870X2 in August/september, depending on what kind of speed jumps there are for it's price.

280 GTX is out of it for me, especially, as has been said, it may not have that long a shelf life if there already taping out it's successor.
