Who's got the Hottest 8800GT

My BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC2 512MB card will arrive tomorrow. I shall report back!

Shouldn’t be too bad, I have an efficient cooling system inside my tower.

I have that card. When leaving the fan on auto, card ran at around 58 degrees idle (CPU idles at 35) and over 70 when playing games for an hour or so (CPU at 55). Using rivaTuner i set fan on GFX card to run at 75% constantly. This is noisey but when doing that card runs around 42 idle and never seen it go above 68 degrees with load.

Conclusion: if you have the default cooler you must adjust the fan speed to keep the card cool.

Forgot I posted in this thread! Well, received my card just before Christmas. Temperature monitoring appears to be working and the card is adjusting the fan speed accordingly. I have the small fan version of the cooler, so it is very very loud. I can set it to 43% before it starts to annoy me. However, due to the card hitting 85 full load, even when the fan is at maximum, I have decided to let the fan adjust itself.

It is also worth noting that I have overclocked the card to 710 / 1760 / 1007 (2014). I am reluctant to push it any further until I have installed a new cooler, which I am looking into now. I know it should be ok at 85 but I’m personally not comfortable knowing that an essential part of my computer is operating at such a high temperature. If people are interested, I will report back on the cooler I choose and the difference it has made.

The BFG 8800GT OC2 512 is an awesome card. Crysis is so much more playable now (at 1280x1024 Very High XP) compared to my 8800GTS 640. Every other game I throw at it runs perfectly, such as UT3, BioShock, STALKER and Gears of War. I game at 1280x1024 usually but sometimes 1600x1200 if I can get away with it!

So if you are reading through this thread and still feel undecided, hopefully this post will help you make a decision :)

Just idling :D Overclocked, no custom fan.

Ok I may have overestimated the cooling potential of the GT's cooler. I was in TDU last night, and at 29% (Auto) my GT reached 91 degrees, I wacked it up to 40% and it reached around 89 degrees. But its still operating within acceptable tolerances and I'm not causing any problems to the card.

Im not sure but would you guys consider Scan for Articfracts, being load, im guessing it is. after 10 Min of Scaning for Artifracts on a warm day , Auto Fan Speed my temps were as so

8800 GT (All Stock)

Idle 50c

Load After 10 Min 76-77 (Switching Between them temps)

57c Ambient Temp

37.65% Fan Speed

(Also 20 Min No Change In Temp)

So 77c No Higher, the ppl with 96c + must have poor airflow etc, also just out of interest what did ** fan speeds turn up to.

I just slap the fan on 100% and run 725/2200 24/7 and it's fine, never crashed once in the 2 weeks I've had the rig...

Cheers
