One lot removed in a dental clinic, oh that was fun. The ones growing into my gum got removed in hospital under general anaesthetic. That was even more fun, pain, swelling, stiches, antibiotics, liquid foods…..
I had one removed (lower left) as it was growing in the wrong direction and if left would have grown into the tooth in front of it causing problems.
Had it out under local and didn't feel a thing (despite them having a real struggle to get it out as there was nothing actually wrong with the wisdom tooth so it was in there solid).
Had it out on a Monday morning and looked like a chipmunk all week. Did make it into work on the Friday but didn't feel that good. All back to normal by the following Monday.
I've been in rough pain for the past 2 weeks due to my wisdom teeth. Calling the dentist tomorrow to get them removed as I think they are pushing and crushing my back teeth (hence my jaw pain) how long is the surgery roughly?
All mine are gone, can't remember when I got them out. My sister's are also out, she was funny in the back seat of the car going back home, she kept saying "there my brain goes", to bad it never came back, hehe.
I had one taken out to help the butcher, sorry dentist, remove another tooth which had broken. The removal of the wisdom tooth was a piece of cake, it's a shame the fishing around for the other tooth's broken fragments wasn't as nice, or as fast.
Apparently, I have a high tolerance of pain, but after the anaesthetic wore off... well.
I had my bottom set of Wisdom teeth out when I was 20 under local anaesthetic. I took a driving lesson later that day & the instructor said it was the best I'd done so far, even though my face was throbbing!
Got booked in myself later in the year to have a fully impacted one removed. It's against bone or something (??) and it's next to the nerves in my jaw, so there is a chance I'll lose feeling in my tongue etc etc
You won't feel any pain to speak of during the procedure if the dentist is good. You will however need to take ibuprofen for 12-48 hrs after just for general soreness. Not that you really need it, but it helps.
I've had both my lower wisdom teeth removed, the first was done in hospital under local anasthetic and was pretty straightforward though it took ages for the injections to take effect until he used a super strength one which seemed to do the trick. It then took less than 30 seconds to remove the tooth with a giant tooth grabbing contraption.
The second one I had removed some years later at my dentist, this one took a lot longer due to him having to cut the tooth in half before it would come out but wasn't painful at all really (nothing compared to the toothache I had the previous week anyway which kept me awake for three days straight).
edit.. I've since changed my diet a couple of years ago (I no longer eat crisps at all) and touch wood I've had zero problems.
had an impacted one that was scraping my cheek, caused loads of scarring, dentist worked out that my medical insurance would cover an op to have all 4 taken out if it was done under general - so went to a nice private hospital in London, en suite bed for the night and one of the best maxillofacial surgeons doing the op with one of the best aneasthetists in the country! Was actually a really cool experience, I asked him how long Id be out for as Id never been under, his reply was:
"for about 30 seconds longer than I need you to be."
Was like having an operation by the SAS
Was a good job too, my impacted tooth and sheared when he pulled it as it had an exposed nerve and decay had weakened the tooth so much it just shattered, apparently he had a knee on my chest at one point :S
Coming round from the anaesthetic was awesome, can definitely see why people get addicted
