Whos thinking of sticking with what theyve got and bypassing the "next gen" cards??

I might SLi my GTX 275 quickly if I can grab some fast cash. Either way, I will wait, and see what Nvidia deliver, and probably upgrade middle of next year.

Im sticking with my gtx 280 for the time being, im actually considering adding another for sli, ideally an xfx 640 core clocked xt to match the one i have.

I've been trying to do the same, but finding another Zotac 265 AMP! is proving quite difficult =( Might have to scrap the plan, as my work screwed me out of hours.

My card is still decent and plays everything at the highest settings. If anything comes along that throttles it and worth playing, I'll upgrade. Right now I'm waiting to see what Nvidia is going to do as I'm interested in buying from them next.

I think the GPU manufacturers are getting too far ahead of the general public. To me the 5xxx series ATI cards are not a significant leap forward over 48xx cards and GT200 cards and are not a necessary purchase if you have either of the aforementioned cards.

The lack of DirectX 10 games has slowed down progression of games requiring faster cards. An abundance of DX11 games are about 1 to 2 years away and we are still awaiting a killer DX10 title.

I expect my GTX280 will last me a couple of years yet, I would imagine an ATI 4870 1MB would do too for that matter.

Actually its probably down to the fact there is a little bambino on the way.... Now I wonder if I should start building a killer PC for the nipper yet and could I get away with the cost with the other half ?? nawwww. no chance ! :)

Its better in a lot of ways to stick with an older gpu for a while. Then when you do upgrade you get a pretty large peformance bump. Certainly much more than going from 4870 to 5870 for example.

A solitary 8800GTX in my new system..... I want a new toy so will probably buy new in a month, 2 tops.

Was tempted by another GTX but i think power draw and the missus seeing the leccy bill says no!

Same as, still using my trusty BFG 8800GTX OC2, that's 2 and half years down the line, runs all the games i play @ 1650 adequately enough.

Keeping my eye out for a 295 when the prices drop a little more, that'll tie me over for another couple of years i would expect.

Oh, forgot i'll need to change the waterblock too doh! *sob*.

to be honest i dont see anything beating my 9800gtx sli with custom air cooling at any reso under 1900. honestly i think i can play anything other than crysis (its alway this damn game isnt it!) at any given reso, so i probably skip this generation unless nvidia offers something unbelievablely good for under £200!

I'll be sticking with the 4870 1gb for the next year, given how little I game on the PC it wouldn't make sense to do anything else. Maybe pick up another 4870 at one stage when prices drop even more. :)

I've still got to catch up on plenty of games that the 4870 will run at 1900x1200 without any sweat at all.

Until something I really want to play maxed out struggles @ 1650 i'm going to be sticking with my 4850x2. It was Crysis that made me move up from a 8800GT so until another crysis like game come along...

Good to see lots of sensible people in here not willing to spalsh out ridiculous amounts of money for a 5870, with developers now concentrating on the consoles games just don't need the very latest graphics hardware like they did 5 to 10 years ago.

I`m very surprised so many people are splashing out though esp in this current hard economical times, £300 could go towards so much, you could buy an xbox360 and Wii for around that with much more games releases, £300 just isn't worth it for some extra frames per second, slightly higher resolutions is it when PC games run fast enough/are much crisper compared to consoles as it is.

I suppose some people just always want the absolute best available. But I also think a lot of people will be holding off until they see what Nvidia brings. Or the economy gets better. But you are right Neil King, most games are being developed for consoles now, and not solely PCs. The only game coming out soon, that I could maybe see maxing our PCs again is Crysis 2, but I think even that is going onto consoles now.

One of the next contenders for pushing our systems to the limit will probably be Doom4. End of 2010 at the earliest imo.

As titles are developed for multiple platform then its bound to harness the PC's develop a bit and keep it a little more level pegging with the 360 and PS3.

Very tempted at the moment, but my Overclocked 4850 512Mb with a huge Thermalright HeatSink, is telling me to wait. BF2 is running lovely at 1920x1080 with 4xAA, so cant really justify it. Lottery wins are another matters though. :)
