Who's Upgrading/Building a new rig for BF3?

If you're only going to be running 2 sticks of RAM then the cooler doesn't matter at all.

I was told by a member on here the previous cooler I picked would have cause problems with the ram, thats why I decided to ask someone to choose me one from scratch on here.

It would only cause potential problems if you wanted to fill all 4 slots since the slots closest to the cooler might be blocked, you can use the further away slots and use any cooler you want.

Im really looking forward to BF3 having played the alpha. But ive no need to upgrade the core components of my system, when the full game is released ill see how my current gpu's cope, if theyre not upto the task ill replace those. My next system upgrade will probably be when ivybridge arrives.

Im getting a new rig because the one I have no is out of date and I have a few grand spare to use. I figured I might as well buy a beast while I can afford that luxury so ive just put down £2600 on a new rig which should arrive on either Saturday or Monday.

Ill definately be playing BF3 on it though!

Next ill want to get a joystick for the jets although ill have to wait for the game to release first to find out which will be compatable.

I think I may get a new monitor and graphics card when the new generations come out. Hopefully AMDs 7xxx range will be out soon after BF3 release.

Got a solid Sandybridge build but waiting for release before doing graphics card. Might well be in Thailand for release so could save a fair whack and speculate on new cards on my return. No point buying a card for it to sit and do nothing for 3+ months.

Yeah already in and bought for BF3.

Base unit is the Ultima Tyrannosaur with tweaks... so its an i7 2600K @ 4.5Ghz, 8GB Ram, 2 x 580GTX SLI and a 256Gb SSD as my primary drive.

Should be able to chew up BF3 :D

A 2008 23" Apple Cinema Display. Yes, I said it... Apple! ;)

Now, will this perform well if it was connected to a high spec gaming PC for BF3. I want to make use of what I already have (hence my other post about the sound card) and was wondering if this screen is up to scratch for gaming? It supports up to 1920x1200. Money saved using stuff like this means I can put more towards the internal components.

A quick Google suggests it has a 14ms response time - that's a little high for gaming probably??

Thanks.

I am building a new rig in Oct/Nov, but it's for Skyrim mainly, but if Battlefield 3, proves to be better than the COD clones and the last MOH, i will definitely give it a look!.

I won't be upgrading before BF3 I will wait to see what it is like and how it performs on my rig now (1090t, gtx 470, 60gb ssd) If I can't keep it somewhere near a high level of detail then will be looking at switching to xfire 6950's or 6970's and maybe to a bigger ssd so I can have it installed on ssd too.

what i tend to do is every two years replace everything even down to the mouse. In the next two weeks is due to all happen again. ive got my spec pretty much sorted now:

Icore 7 2600k
asus p8p67 deluxe
Kingston HyperX Genesis 8gb
the gpu is the only main issue, im wanting the msi lightning extream but still waiting on stock.

im getting a new case, psu, monitor and other bits and bobs.

im upgrading from a Q9450, 4gb ram, and a gtx260.

my timing for upgrading is pretty good as im wanting to play rage, BF3, well to be fair ive not played a new release this year on the pc so ive got plenty of catching up and games to enjoy :)
