Why are "3 door" hatchbacks cool?

the fact that u have a rover heightens ** street cred therefore u dont need 3 doors to be cool

What the hell is the thread about anyway?
All the people moaning about 3 doors are probably the fat ****'s that find it hard to get in and out of them.
You get just as much room inside, so what you have to climb in.
Have you not ever been in the back of a sports car, for instance as Porsche 911? THEN you can complain.
If someone wants there car to look a bit more sportish/coupe like then why moan? It does look cooler!

3dr versions are almost always lighter. I prefer 3dr myself.

Anyways, back on topic - the only thing I prefer (at the moment, whilst I don't have kids!) are the shorter doors on a 4/5dr, the long doors on a coupe/2/3dr can be a pain trying to get out of the car in a car park!

As I understand it, the advantages to a 3 door are:
- Slightly lighter
- Slightly stiffer bodyshell
- Cheaper to produce, so probably cheaper to buy
- Bigger door hole on the 3 door, which some drivers may prefer
So assuming you don't need the practicality of getting in the back of hatchback on a regular basis, or fancy something like the focus of a Type-R, then a 3 door makes sense. Of course if you buy a car to drive from A-B, and don't care about performance, 5 doors is emminently sensible.
