Why are "3 door" hatchbacks cool?

Nearly all cars that have a 3dr and 5dr variant look better in the 3dr version.

The only cars that look really good as 5 doors are cars that are designed from the ground up as a 5dr car only, 3dr versions turned into 5dr models look like an afterthought in most cases. :)

My 3 door is a combi-coupe :) Best of all worlds (IMO of course) - quick, sportyish looking, practical, rusty. Er, ignore that last :D

I don't think anyone would buy a 3-door because they think it will make them 'look cool', or give then 'street cred', or think it is a coupe.

It's just the simple fact that 3-doors look better than 5 on the majority of cars.

I would have prefered a 5 door in all honesty, but they don't make them in the S3. Convience for the win.

Hatchbacks are cool ?? Hatchbacks are for shopping and are mainly driven by women and kids, they arent cool, coupes are cool. :p

I don't get the whole 'it's easier for giving lifts to friends' thing. Are your friends contributing to the purchase price of the car?

What the hell is the thread about anyway?

im confused also, its a thread from someone who doesnt actuallly own a car, stating that 3 door cars are gay?

Firstly, actually own a car. Secondly, 5 door cars are gay, unless its a saloon - IE: a4, 5 series, passat.

5 door cars are for people with kids who are too lazy to put the passenger seat forward.

Ger off?

So the only reason 5 doors are cool, is cos his mum has one, bless :p

I thought the point was about the 1.4, not the 5 doors.

This thread is majorly pointless, but it is humerous, which is good. :D

They sound more like taxi drivers don't they.

We buy cars that suit our lifestyles. Mine involves going out with friends, where, invariably, I will drive.

Oh I'm so upset driving around in a MK5 Golf with my insurance and petrol paid. If your parents had offered you that at 17/18 I doubt you'd refuse.

It also means I can save more money towards my own car, and I'm now the named driver of the Golf and am building up NCB.

1.4  bet thats a quick beast loaded up with all your mates :p

Why a 1.4?

Cheap insurance, and it's still quicker than most of the cars my mates drive. 1.4 in 2007 isn't the same as 1.4 in 1990.

I think theres element of your personality to what you buy.. but being practical and suitable to your needs, Like my mini, its pretty much a 2 seater because I have my seat right the way back (6"2) and I only ever carry 1 passenger..

Everyones different.
