Actually 1.4 is meaningless on its own.

There are 1.4 MK5 Golfs which have 170BHP and do 0-62mph in 7.9secs.

Can you please specifically highlight what you would consider is "crap."

Seriously though, the weight and power distribution (well weight to power ratio), old 1.4s are better than newer ones...it's crunch (literally) time that they fall flat on their faces.

The fact it is 19 years old will probably mean the engine is no where near as effective or as fast as it was when the car was originally made.

There are a range of 205s for that year and the fastest is 85bhp so I doubt there'd be anything between them.
