Why are Fords so ugly nowadays

Is it bad that I actually like the look of the new Puma?

I don't think 20 years from now, the new Puma will be revered in the same manner as the original. ;)

Girlfriend owned a Puma 1.7 back in the day and I always enjoyed driving. The 2020 iteration, other than the slight design cue's, has no connection as far as I can tell?

Personally I think it's only the hot hatches that have fallen away in the looks department in recent years.

More of a Vauxhall man myself, but also agree the mid 2000s era as being the peak of aesthetics in that category at least.

Still a /drool for me that's more pleasing to my eye than 98% of other cars on the road in 2020

I still think they look great personally. Some such as the ecosport are questionable, but there's still nice looking regular Fords:

I have to agree with this one, but then I would, thats almost identical to my car save for it having the optional sport skirts on the side :p

I think with current fords the options are what make a huge difference. I think the mondeo really suits the estate form and with the big optional wheels / tinted windows I think it's a great looking thing. Unfortunately, in a more standard trim it can look like this......

Which is just a sad sad thing. Amazing the difference wheels and tinted windows can make.

My personal theory is that Ford are making the standard spec cars so bland and uninspiring that you have to pay for the higher specs to get a decent looking car.

Also don't like how the st-lines and st are 99% identical and can't be differentiated unless you see the huge badge on the back.

majesty from the colour adds a lot - his mustang ... in grey/silver this really exposes the design, or lack of ? does grey only work on a porsche spyder ?
mmh big 19/20 rims to the point where the ride is compromised on uk roads ... unfortunately i'm not a chiropractor

the recent stuff about the bmw badge design change ... does this acknowledge the lack of distinct designs
... BM's badge design can now be backlit, but that won't help me distinguish it at 200m ... only in the car park/drive

How much of that convergence is down to the regulations the designers have to follow regarding the height/width/position of lights, and crumple zones for pedestrian impacts, window sizes etc. It's similar to why all F1 cars look the same. The regulations determine where you can and cannot place bodywork, so everything follows the same pattern. I'm certain if they had free reign then every manufacturers car would look entirely different - which is why concept cars look brilliant until they're forced to be sanitised for real world use.
Yeah fair comment. Interesting.

There are exceptions to those rules for low volume manufacturers. Which is why exotics still look nice
