I personally have my profile private. There's nothing on it anyway - I don't have some hefty wall o' text biography plastered across my profile. I really don't see the point, it just makes you look desperate, especially the furries/ponies/fandoms/etc. Cringe material right there. Especially the people who have "requirements", yet they're obviously degenerates and are frowned upon in general society., or NEETS seeking a social group to be apart of. Sorry to generalise, but I've seen many a cringe profile like these. There seems to be a strong connection between Anime avatars and traps

I met a girl years ago and we've been friends ever since though (through CS:S). All the other girls I've met though have annoyingly forced, high-pitched "squeals" for laughs

Essentially they do it because there's something to be gained from this kind of behaviour online, particularly monetary gains through one form or another.

Internet gaming is still not a very friendly place at all for women frankly, particularly with VOIP. MMOs like WoW may have a higher proportion of women but it's because they can hide better and most decent guilds would deal with any issues. In fact that is what most serious female gamers do, they try to stay under the radar because pestering gets silly.
