Why are they turning off Analogue TV?

So is digital TV quality improved from when I had ntl digital TV five years ago, when half the channels were pixellated and occasionally went blank? Analogue on the other hand has no such issues and the picture quality is perfect. I don't see why it ever needs to be turned off.

it can still be like that in some places on certain channels if you have poor reception. Ive personally had no problems tho and imagine theyd be boosting the signals soon

I got my Freeview box this week for £35 :) Not bad to go from 5 channels to 81 and if nothing else, now I don't have to suffer S4C instead of Channel 4 :D
According to the box you can use it across a number of TVs but didn't really read that part in the manual because it's not relevant to me.
At last count I think there are 84 or 86 channels.

Also, I realised this "problem" whereby loads of people only have one decent aerial point and also loads of people are scared by the need of having to go digital. Namely older people but lots of people dont have a clue.

This is why I started a business doing what I do. Basically solve all these issues :)

It's starting to take off now but I think it will be another year before people go mad with aerial upgrades or distributing their existing aerial about the house and need equipment setup and taught how to use it.

I've been on ntl digital for as long as it's been available and never had such problems. The freeview box I've had for a week has been fine quality too.
Possibly your area? But in which case as it was 5 years ago, it's probably much improved now.

I remember reading about a lot of people having quality complaints with ntl digital TV, and the same issues I had.

The last Freeview box I used was pants. Sky owned it IMO.

Is there quite a range of makes you can pick from?

The analogue system is taking up a lot of bandwidth and also a lot of transmitter masts. Once it's switched off digital will have full coverage and more channels and digital radio stations can be launched. Hopefully with HD options!

Yes Mr Iain.

The digital box uses a DAC (digital analogue converter) in much the same way that a CD player reads a disc in digital and then converts the output to an analogue signal which you can understand...

I am confused by this talk of "CD player"? My Edison-o-phone only plays wax cylinders.

Now that i have freeview i don't see a real reason why i should get sky at all, i do miss all the football but for the money you pay to watch it, it's not worth it. Freeview gives a great picture where i live and im really impressed with it.
