Here's a foolproof suggestion. If you want to play your old PS3 games, then why not just plug the PS3 in and use that? Should take you about two seconds. Besides, the lack of backwards compatibility has been known about for ages, with that being the case why did you bother buy one and then whine about it on the internet?
You can't get mad about something not having a feature you wish it had. You have made a presumption that just because the ps2 and ps3 (first edition) had this the ps4 would. Up to you to research especially when laying down £400 
But for the price it'll add to the PS4 it'll basically cost the same as just buying a PS3. I doubt Sony want to pump money into R&D when there is so little incentive.

As said already, there's no incentive for them to do so. Launch time is also the worst time to do it; they want to sell as many consoles as possible, and a more expensive BC model would invariably lead to reduced numbers of the cheaper version.
If there was a valid business case for it, they'd have done it. Evidently they weren't looking for a repeat performance of the PS3 launch.

I don't know mate, maybe because I've spent hundreds of pounds on what turns out to be complete waste.
I have sent it back btw, my job gives me very little time to enjoy gaming and if they cannot offer a console that is backwards compatible then they can goto hell to be honest. 300 back in my account thank you. It was an ugly piece of crap anyway.
This is such an invalid argument on so many levels. Why should I have a blu-ray player that doesn't play DVDs for example. It is absolutely ridiculous. I am so furious that it turns out it isn't in fact a compatibility reason but more so some greedy corporate scum at Sony trying to screw us over. You think I'm joking, but my PS4 has been sent back to Game. They can frankly **** off. You can keep on giving them money though mate, it's your earnings.
I feel very, very strongly about this. It is unacceptable, full stop. I can't play the games I paid £50 for. Well done Sony, lose my business and I know why you will be dead in 5 years.

And you say above that you spent hundreds of pounds on games that you now can't play. You did, I assume, also buy a ps3 to play them on?

Yes, I have my PS3 but you miss the point. This is such a stupid argument. Frankly it would make sense to have a console that enables the customer to play EVERYTHING that it can. Your argument to or against is too late because my PS4 has already gone back. It's like a new car coming out that doesn't accept our usual standard of petrol. Some of us have LIVES and decent jobs and it is pathetic to expect people to have a PS3 and a PS4.
So what happened to all your old videos when you upgraded to DVDs? Occasionally this happens. Get over it.
On a side note, I struggle to see what job would prevent you from having a PS3 and a PS4. You're still going to spend the same amount of time playing games no matter how many consoles you have, unless you have some extra hands.
No I agree when I got my Macbook Pro I was livid I couldnt use my old copy of MS Office 2003 on it - Intel you suck
