If this was truly an enthusiast forum, I would rarely see threads about getting value for money and people just going crazy buying the best of the best and others going, screw you guys!

How are you defining enthusiast? What you describe sounds more like early adapters (or whatever they are called now days) or the epeen brigade, rather then enthusiast.

LtMatt, should be banned for a few days for that. Thats horror memory material.

Somebody thats always on the latest technology or software and really, I mean really who knows their stuff. People who purchases anything expensive but has very little knowledge I don't see them as enthusiasts. It's usually most of them that causes the biggest noise online or become ratty or go all defensive. Not all but a lot of them. Every forum has them.

Problem is as well, there's plenty enthusiasts out there that know their stuff but can't throw endless thousands on obtaining new technology/software or camera gear and so on.

I agree, I don't know why Nvidia released the Titan, I can't imagine they made much if anything on it, sales numbers must have been tiny.

All manufacturers use 'faulty' chips in lower end parts it's standard practice, I say 'faulty' as it can be either whole clusters just don't work at all or only work at lower speeds.

Actually the sales for titans were very, very good. People that normally moan about value for performance are just people that can't afford what they're looking at. Which they're entitled to moan about. But if you can't afford it just move on, you're unlikely to get anywhere by getting irritated about it. In any case, you're not missing out on much at the moment. Drivers are terrible.

For most people who are not willing to cough up £800+ for a graphic card, they certainly have the choice to show Nvidia the finger and walk away pretending that card never existed. However, the problem is Nvidia used the Titan as a tool to artificial inflating the price of the normal sub-£500 range cards. Back then I expressed my concern that with so many people willing to pay the silly price for the Titan, it may lead to a knock-on effect on bumping up the pricing of the normal range cards...and guess what? That's really what happened.

Some people have said along the line of "well, if you can't afford GTX780, stop your whining and buy something that you can afford"...but the problem is that for the cheaper card, people can now get what...a GTX770? Which is exact same price range as the 7970, which people could have gotten 12 months ago with same/better performance (game and res dependent)?

So in a way, graphic performance progression in terms of performance vs price has pretty much stood still for the pass 12 months. For the price of £330 at around 12 months later (after the 12.11 driver), there should be no excuse for the GTX770 to still be beaten by the 7970 is ANY situation, other than in AMD optimised games.

But of course, some people failed to or refused to recognise this being an issue. People willing to ignore value for money and drop £800+ on the fastest meanest graphic card yes that is their choice and it's nobody's busy I agree, but that doesn't mean they can talk down/look down on people for pointing out that they are now essentially paying £300 ish for a card that should now only worth £220-£260, and a £500+ for a GTX680 "same tier replacement".

People need to stop comparing the the GTX780 to the Titan, and look at the reality of the GTX780 is merely 10-40% faster than the GTX680/7970 15 months later and ask for £150 extra, as if it was same gen card launched side by side with the GTX680 15 months ago.

If more people are moaning in more then its not really about the Titan its about the effect that it has on the range of cards they normally buy, they have a right to moan but then you contradict that telling them not to.

The prices are edging up and the more people who can't afford it or can but wont then the worse it is for the pc gaming community as a whole.

People have been moaning that pc gaming is being held up because of consoleS, Intel has also been partly blamed for holding back PC gaming because the majority use Intel IGP and rising prices on discrete GPUs will not help the matter.

So we will be left with the few who will pay no matter what with no worthy games to fully exploit the hardware except for poorly coded ones that bring the hardware too its knees for no visual reason.

Totally agree with the OP. I can afford but cannot justify 780/Titan.

I think I have a built in limit of around £450 as long as it was a big upgrade.

Never ever considered a console before, but I may try one of the next gen. Though wouldnt like game prices then :p

I'm in same position Devious -except for the console bit

can afford a 780 or Titan - I just can't bring myself (or justify) the expense really - it just for some reason seems a bit of a waste - especially since my 570 is not exactly substantially struggling @ 1080p, but against that I love upgrading and tweaking

will "stick" for now I think

I don't understand where the assumption comes from that anyone who has an issue must only have an issue because they're jealous or can't afford one.

Like seriously, how many people have cars? Cars are significantly more expensive typically than a few Titans and yet the issue of not being able to afford comes up so often. I wonder if you took that in to consideration?

Additionally, the sales for Titans were good, not because of the performance they offer in games but because they are essentially K20X Tesla cards for a fraction of the price, WITH display outputs. The Tesla cards typically don't actually have display outs, so they were quite attractive to people who wanted what K20Xs offer, with display outputs for much much less.

£800~ isn't crazy money to professionals working with software that has heavy use of CUDA because of the amount of money they would bring in by reducing work times.

Not many people will have Titans solely for games.

It's not about the Titan as a individual item it's more about the knock on effect of these expensive cards have to the rest of the range.

I'm assuming MjFrosty has one?

I read this on IMDB a while back and thought how true it has become.

The jealousy line is getting old, and in danger of becoming a stock cliche - that is, something that's not necessarily completely inacurate, but still something that's being used lazily to bat down any critical/negative point of view.

Exactly. The "jealously" line is so trite and inaccurate.

Reading these last posts make me feel like I should be ashamed for buying my GTX 780s and hereby help nvidia inflate prices, and then contribute to ruining pc gaming for others.... it's like a catch 22.

I know my "upgrade" isn't financially sensible, but it's my hobby and graphics cards are my passion.

Don't worry about it, you will feel a lot better when you see the price of the upcoming HD 9970. Just look at the price of the AMD HD 7990 to get a good idea how much they are going to sell the HD 9970 for. £600.00 anyone ?

It's not a laughing matter at all. While you are still happily defending Nvidia out of patriotism, the rest of us are indeed very concerned about Nvidia and AMD holding hands with one another with "one taking the front, the other taking the rear, and the customers in between..."
