Why did you get a mac?

I bought a Mac for OS X, back when XP was current. Not so sure I'd do the same again now that Vista/Windows 7 are here, the price difference is hard to justify. I'd pay for OS X though, I just don't like the choice of hardware.

for me, it was the way they looked, but after using mac os its so simple and it never screws up

and then i use boot camp, the best of both worlds on my macbook pro
mac os, and vista

but on my macpro i got mac os leopard on one drive, win xp on the other, and vista on the other, and use the next hd for storage,

just one problem with macs for me is the price, but u get what you pay for

I bought one because I needed a new laptop and I wanted to get some experience on Macs.

I, like many others here bought a Mac Pro as a workstation for music production. Although, I built another beast of a watercooled rig for gaming, the Mac is happily at the heart of my recording studio and rarely gives me any problems.

Like some of the previous posters, I agree that Mac OS X is a fantastic OS and its no-nonsense approach coupled with rock solid stability increases workflow no end. I only now use Windows if I have to and to put it into perspective, I have a watercooled PC with the following specs:

ASUS P5K-E Wifi
Intel Core2Duo E8400 @ 4.40Ghz (487x9, 1.35v)
750GB Samsung Spinpoint F1
4GB OCZ Reaper 8500 @ 975
Radeon 4870X2
M-AUDIO Delta 66

This custom water-cooled PC takes 40 seconds to boot (Windows Vista Sp1 64 NEW format). LOL!

My 2 year old Mac Pro (early 2006 model @ 2.66Ghz) boots in 15 seconds!

Furthermore, Mac OS X aint like windows where you think its booted up but still chugging away doing something pointless. The Mac is TOTALLY booted up in that time - absolutely amazing! In my industry, time IS money. The less time I spend messing around with crappy software/hardware the better!

Tom

Sounds like you need to be hibernating on your Vista rig!

Simply got fed up of using my PC at home. I maintain networks for a living and keep Windows from throwing up all over itself - fell in love with OSX and wanted something at home that was a bit different.

I got a Mac because it was shiny and i had £2000 burning a hole in my pocket.

I had bought a Breitling Hercules watch for £2000, it developed a fault and i had to return it to the Trafford Centre branch of Ernest Jones, and got a full refund, on my way back to the car i was walking past the Apple store, previously id never had an Apple product of any kind.. sexy shiny case, i had a brief play with the Macpro and bought it, never looked back, now ive got 2x Macpros, 24" iMac and a 17" MBP... Ill be getting another Macpro when the i7+Bluray combo hits the stores, that way i can finally get rid of my last Windows based PC. :)

1. Looks sexy
2. Does what I need really, with Windows I would be constantly mucking about trying to fix things when this Mac just works fine for what I need it to do.
3. I am a student so I have a lot of work to do and Mac keeps me off gaming!
