Why did YOU get an AMD CPU instead of Intel & Why did you get an Intel instead of AMD?

always been a bit of an amd fan due to their budget friendly nature and awesome potential for clocking. i so wanted a bulldozer until i saw the facts and figures. ended up buying a 2600k with an IB compatible mobo so that will be me for a few years

gpu wise i'm an ati man, so tempted by a new 7000 series but theres no benefit for me moving from a 6970 to a new card when i game at 1080p

I fancied a change. Simple as that.

I'd had a million 775 CPU's, and a go with i3, and the i5/i7's didn't interest me, the X6's were on the horizon so thought I'd have a look a the Phenom II's for a while.

And they've served me well, I love my X6 it's a great CPU and platform.

My next setup will be Ivy no doubt.

I get which ever gives me the best price/performance at the time. At the moment it's intel because I only play games

The same with GPU, best price/performance. I do prefer nvidia control panel to the CCC though.

i try to be level-headed when buying stuff so that i consider all the options and choose what i think is best

i am using SB CPU's at the moment as i believe they are the best for performance/price and beat AMD's Performance/Price

Back in the day (by that I mean 2003/2004), I was an AMD fanboi. I had the excellent Barton core 2500. It was a beauty and a half and Intel's Pentium 4 with HT didn't come close.

After that, I went dual core with their 4400+ CPU. Mainly cos it was the CPU I could afford at the time (Intel were overpriced). Then in 2007 I bought their 6000+ as a stepping stone for my gaming machine.

Then I started to hear good things about Intel and their Q6600 in particular. Well, I stopped being a fan boy and went down Intel's route. Since then, I now own two Intel 920 D0's both sitting pretty at 4.0GHz. Haven't looked back since :D Of course getting such CPU's I was lucky to get into some windfall back in 2009 to afford them.

So like most on here, I now go for the price/perfomance and at present, even tho AMD's CPUs are cheaper, they don't seem to perform like the Bartons did (man those were the days). Well ok comparing them to the Bartons is lame, but hey. :p

had a 1090t which i was quite happy with, do mainly 3d rendering so was hoping bulldozer would be a nice upgrade but as soon as it came out it was obvious there was little to no gain to be had, and inconsistent performance to boot i decided not to bother, the amd route seemed a dead end. Had the oppertunity to do an upgrade at xmas time so have gone intel with a 3930k, amd dont even have anything that can compete with intels 6 core chips, not even close, which is a shame as competitions good for keeping prices down.

oddly when i changed mobo/cpu, despite the rest of the machine being identical the average fps in games almost doubled, not that they were low before but where i was getting 50-60fps i now sometimes get over 100fps, which is nice when you have a 120hz monitor :D

I needed a value setup a couple of years ago so built an AM3 system with a Phenom2 555, never unlocked though :-( Over chirstmas I've dropped a 960T in which has unlocked to hex core to get some more life out of my M4A79XTD EVO, i'm sorted for a while now, really chuffed with my NEW system.

Moving forward I'd buy whatever gave me good bang for buck, I don't care about the absolute best performance, all I care about is will it do what I need it to, in a year or two that could be AMD again or Intel but would almost certainly be a full build...

Went from Q6600 > Phenom 1090 because I had one floating around at work :).

Currently using the Q6600 in my work PC OC'd to 3.2GHz so didn't go to waste

bored with Intel, fancied a change and had an AM3+ board so thought 'why the hell not...', also fancied messing around with a Bulldozer. ;)

Intel;

wanted a decent SLI motherboard with PCIe3.0 support that would give the best longevity and AM3 seems a bit long in the tooth, I had been hoping bulldozer would be an excellent chip but it's barely as good as a 2500k for the same money, plus managed to nab a really good deal on a 3930k so didn't even wait for the 3820 like I'd said I would

980x when it was released paid 1100 baxs and will use it min 3 years

i am not very rich just love intel :D

also got golden chip 1.2 for 4.0

4.7 only 1.42

Intel because my old Athlon used to overheat, always performed poorly against my friends equivalent p4 at the time & used to cpu lag in everything.

Never get anything like that with my +5 year old set up I'm using now.

Had AMD's in the past and had nothing but issues! I then got a Core2Duo which got hammered and never missed a beat so I then upgraded to LGA1366 i7 :D
