So, yeah, im still on xp service pack 2 and have been since release. should i bother upgrading to vista and is it worth it ?

seeing all those desktop pics (that thread) seems like everyone has vista.

I guess i could upgrade but is there any point at the moment ?

i wouldn't bother if i was you. i love vista myself but you should only upgrade when you want to. and besides there are plenty of xp threads around - especially from people who have gone back to it from vista. :p

i dual boot vista32 and xp32 but i end up using xp 99% of the time unless i know im only going to browse then i would use vista...as its nice and pretty.

i suppose if i had vista64 installed i'd probably use that more but i only got 2gb memory so no hurry to get vista 64

As a Vista user, don't bother. Don't get me wrong, I love Vista, and will use it at home until I see Windows 7 or something takes me away from it, but if it weren't for SuperFetch, I'd quite happily stick with XP64. I use XP 32-bit at work, and other than it being a bit slower loading programs than my similarly-specced home PC, it's fine.

Vista's fine now, but just upgrade it the next time you do a major upgrade if you're on an OEM license, or wait for Windows 7, which by the looks of it should be fine from the off, it being more like a major service pack for Vista.

Vista isn't a vital upgrade yet, but having had it for over a year now, I wouldn't want to go back to XP. It's nicer to use, prettier to look at and has some very useful features which XP lacks.

I upgraded purely because I wanted to try it out for myself and see how it worked and performed, and I've been mostly impressed with it. Certainly can't see any real reason to stick with XP, and I really don't understand why people are still getting new PCs with XP installed.

Still with XP. Won't move to vista unless I can get hold of a copy of ultimate because the rest are terrible.

Seriously your stuck in the past man!!! (dazed and confused style)

XP is old HAT! i still use it as i cant afford the vista lisence (well for a x64 version of it as i have the 32bit version on my laptop) and vista is the shiz (were taliking sp1 added on) as all the bugs are ironed out and it looks good!

Every one who is anty it has either been taken in by the its new idea (i had that for a while) or the idea that its not worth £70. But they are all missguided, its actually pretty awesome (i hate xp x64 on my desktop as it looks dated and isnt too good to use)

xp 32 bit sp2 here but i used nlite with updated driverpacks to slipstream so i have a fully updated sp2 :D

point of vista is 64 bit and dx10...and a windoze facelift.

32 bit gives me over 3 gig ram usable, which seems plenty for me. chucking a 64bit vista onto a separate drive and having xp as another boot option is the plan, but there is nothing compelling me to fork out the dough for another os right now.

Are you from Bill & Teds bogus journey ?

I've Vista on one machine and XP on another. The XP machine had Vista on it at the start but I switched it back to XP. My work machine is XP aswell. I find its just quicker in XP. Vista seems slow. Theres too many clicks for simple operations, frequent pauses for no reason, and I've had many file permission/ownership issues caused by Vista. Vista looks better than XP and theres some minor little things it does better. But overall theres nothing in it worth making the upgrade for. IMO.

I have both Vista X64 and XP X64 machines
Vista looks beautiful. But Vista doesn't offer me any new functionality (or anything that I use anyway). So apart from the aesthetics Vista offers me nothing. XP does the job perfectly. I certainly will not be upgrading the XP boxes, they will run XP for the rest of their lives. But for a new box I'd go for Vista
