Why do I hate apple?

I just specced a Dell Vostro 1700 to the exact same specs (aside from the display; the Dell's was better) as the 17" MacBook Pro (standard config). The MacBook is £1,799, the Vostro was about £922.

Granted, you don't get the aluminium finish, but I'm not sure a metal case costs £900.

yeah but it's fashion!!

Of course, it's a discussion forum, but if you ask me there's really nothing to discuss. Both platforms have reached a point where they can pretty much do anything you ask of them. There's not a lot on OSX you can't get on Windows, and while OSX is limited on the games front, all current Macs can run Windows, so you can play games if you want.

I don't see what everyone's beef is. If you read this thread objectively, and look at everyone getting their boxers in a twist over what computer a perfect stranger uses, it just seems like a big gang of hopeless, hopeless geeks arguing about... well, nothing.

Which is why I have a Razer Diamondback which has mac drivers... I'm still a gamer (which is why I'm getting Vista).

Says it all really :p

When I build a PC I don't have to install an entire second version of Mac OSX to gain missing functionality. XP/ Vista can already do everything straight out of the box.

Apple's are nice, but anyone who says their superior to a PC is a bit daft - they can't do everything a PC can do straight out of a box. There are some things they still can't do after messing with them for a while.

Also... if you have had consistent problems with XP for three years on different machines, I'd say the problem isn't the operating system or hardware. I've used XP since it first came out over many many different machines had no problems at all.

yeah i see you're point, but im bored, can't sleep, and it's a classic argument.

besides I'm only trying to save people money... :p

lol this thread's full of people getting the wrong end of the stick.

I'm going to sleep now.

take care guys.

AHEMMMM

MAC>PC ;)

I have the iMac listed below, it runs whatever programs I want; including any game I want.

Is more stable than Windows will EVER be.

iLife suite comes with the mac, with OSX...Make websites, edit and create movies, dvds, edit photos, front row, etc and etc...

You cant even play a dvd from a fresh XP install LOL...It might have the biggest available software out there, but you just dont get that 'out of the box' experience. ;)

What do windows people get from a fresh install? Nada...

To be quite honest I'd much, much rather have nothing on a fresh install than a load of crap that I don't want.

Btw, people should read Mohinder's post and take it to heart.

I do agree, though, that a lot of Mac users (at least in my experience) tend to have chips on their shoulders and look down on anyone using something as primitive as a PC.

Explain why I can spec the same configuration with the XPS range and it costs £1944.

£144 more expensive than the MacBook Pro.

Maybe because your comparing apples and oranges?

Except play DVD's Or protect against viruses Or IM software?

Everything?

What can Mac's not do? Except games?

Why is there even an argument? Why does anyone need to justify their computer?

Do you like your computer?

If you do, then all is well in the world. Why do you mind what other people like?

I enjoy debating it and since I enjoy my Mac I like to show people what they could be missing out on. You could essentially use that argument in nearly every debate thread on this forum.

Also I notice that every Mac v PC debate we have is started by someone who doesn't like Mac's for some reason. I don't think I've seen a thread started by a Mac user.

Secondly, look at the posts by Mac users and then look at the PC posters. I can count at least 5 posts by PC users that are either pointless or aggressive or condescending whereas I can count none from Mac users.

As long as people keep it friendly and fun I enjoy debating it.

I don't have a problem with macs, the macbooks look quite good for laptops. Though imacs should really have better gaming support, for that alone I wouldn't get one.

Usually, to start off with, the debate isn't even about if PC is better than Mac (or vice versa) it's more the attitude of some Mac users (from my experience a tiny minority) who seem to think that because they are pretty useful with a Mac, that makes them better than all PC users.

They try to argue that the Mac OS is perfect, never crashes, never has any issues, is 100x faster, does EVERYTHING out of the box, which most people know is not true.

(as mentioned before i own both and prefer PCs)

I dislike Apple because, as companies go, they are far worse than Microsoft, but somehow allowed to get away with their restrictive, proprietory behaviour because it's apple.

I'd love to see what happened to MS if they had 80% of the MP3 player market and insisted on creating a music distribution system that ensured people would have to by their products again in the future or lose all the money they have spent on music, for example.

Mac users are fashion victims IMO.

Why pay more for a product that does less?

It doesn't do less, in fact it does more as you can run both Windows and OSX on it, whereas a PC you can't. They should definitely offer more choice when it comes to hardware and they do charge more (but then a computer built using a £200 case and £40 mouse/keyboard like theirs are will cost more as well).

Either way disliking people for a computers they choose to use is the only sad thing I've seen in this thread :) And that's from a dedicated PC user (who admittedly would buy a Macbook :D).

Jet:

My PC is silent under water and performs 5 times faster than any mac in existence

What about the 3ghz Octo core based Macs? I would say yours is about 40% slower in apps that support multiple cores :)

lol that's debatable.

apart from a name/image what do you get extra in a bmw that's worth the cost?

I doubt quality is that much better, so just based on "specs" if you like a bog standard bmw is inferior to a high end ford, but the bmw would still cost more.

I'm no apple fan, but this argument isn't going to work, because it's wrong. For a start most fords (especially the high end ones) depreciate like they've been pushed off a cliff, whereas BMW's do not.

And you'd be surprised about the quality difference between someone like ford and BMW, or even Volkswagen and Audi.

:)

Its not that I dislike them.:)

Its more that they dislike me and think they can do more "creative" stuff on a mac when this is clearly not the case.

Some Video editors think that if a film is edited on a PC is crap lol.

Sums up some mac users TBH.

I can use both but Macs just make me a cliche in the business:eek:
