That wasnt the question?

He said his computer was 5x more powerful than any mac, i picked a mac pro and made it more powerful than his PC.

I dont give two if you can find a more powerful pc.

Josh

yeah but you're being predantic, it's obvious his pc isn't faster than any mac, he just meant faster than any mac for the money.

I can't beleive i'm even having this argument it's so pathetic.

No...Not really.

Some others think your are wrong also.

Moving on...

mac>PC

PC crashes at every given opportunity, My mac has never crashed once.

PC doesn't like having more then 2 applications open, Mac likes having 1000 open and then likes to do special effects when switching windows.

In conclusion, mac rules PC sucks :)
I use a mac at work, windows (XP) at home and Ubuntu on laptop (used to be Vista but too slow for me on that spec a machine).

Of them all:

Mac:
- doesn't moan having lots of apps/windows open
- crashes at least once a week prompting a hard reset, at least daily prompting force quit on apps
- extremely quick @ text processing and number crunching and general file reading, but due to *nix more than anything else (work)
- ALL office programs suck! Openoffice doesn't trackchanges/comments well so I can't use that.

Win:
- Moans occasionally about having lots of memory intensive apps open, but infrequently
- Hasn't "crashed" prompting a reset since it's build June 06. Explorer.exe has failed a few times but only through user error.
- Doesn't like massive text files, and is quite sluggish handling them and general file reading
- GAMES. End of debate, really.
- Office 2007 is amazing (imho)

Ubuntu
- moans about lots of apps/windows
- annoying as ****** hell to sometimes do simple tasks (like turning trackpad off involves sudo editing etc...)
- ALL office programs suck! Openoffice doesn't trackchanges/comments well so I can't use that.
- Runs steam through wine.
- FREE.... ffs.... >>>>>FREE<<<<

Windows, for me personally, wins. But I prefer a mac at work as a) it is quicker for the specific things I do, b) everyone else uses a mac so it is easier to hot desk, c) we get a massive discount on mac products.

The number of times I just yearn for Windows is uncanny, though... but through nature rather than (99% of the time) neccesity.

Apologies for typo's.

You spend the same money on a mac as a PC and the PC will be faster period.

My existence comment was tongue in cheek.

yantorsen got it as well as many others:p

Its not really the hardware that disagrees with me.

PC is faster more fun and more tweakable than any mac.

Its the fact that some MAC users deem themsleves more credible and creative..

"Just because they use a mac"

AVID runs just as good on PC or MAC.

But the MAC user will see himself as a genuine Video Editor for some strange reason :p

ffs, it's an operating system. I find it really difficult to believe that people care that much. personally, I love my mac, but I can't stand the annoying little zealots that appear to give mac users a bad name. having said that, I think Apple likes its users to believe that they're part of some special club. and why not, I suppose.

I use Ubuntu at work, because I have to (windows is the only other option, and windows is essentially a games console OS from my point of view), my laptop dual boots windows and mac - windows for gaming and device support that I don't get in OSX (through the fault/laziness of the manufacturer, not Apple), and OSX for everything else.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could be active consumers and take the good things out of both OSs and enrich our own experience, rather than picking one and bitching about the other?

Also, I find the build quality of Apple laptops FAR superior to that of any windows laptop I've come across. And OSX has crashed on me many times - it's really not a big deal.

It's horses for courses because they're not really meant for direct comparison of which is better. They're both good at different things.

Mac's look great standard. They're stylish and minimalistic straight out of the box. PCs need some customisation and careful component choosing to look gorgeous. Your average PC looks pretty crap.

PCs are more widespread. They have more software available, they support games pretty much utterly and are quite transparent in how they can be customised and tweaked right from the start.

Macs are the main choice in the design industry, although with improved Windows font-smoothing technology and 64-bit platforms this gap is closing slightly.

Pretty much every Mac owner I know also has a either a PC or bootcamp installed, proving you can't do everything you need to on OSX. I used to have a Mac but started to get annoyed by not being able to do even simple everyday things like upgrade the firmware on my phone etc.

You can't blame Apple for that though, surely?

If the Mac was more popular then the phone software devs would create apps that run on OS X. Just because you can't get hold of a certain app it doesn't make it Apple's fault.

I don't have bootcamp installed, and you can get nearly any type of program on OS X that's available on Windows.. if you're prepared to ditch your name-brand apps and go with an open-source app.

Mac users do though thats my point.

They think they are the real professionals when it come to Video editing etc..in my experience.

They frown upon anyone who "dares to edit on a pc"

hell, why not just go completly open source and get linux then.

substitute 'they' in your post for 'the few I've met'. there's snobby users of each operating system. Windows users are under the impression that there's no right click on Mac, that every user is some snobby, wannabe hot-shot who looks down at everyone else - but statistically that's just not possible!

You'll probably find that the a substantially larger portion of design/video editing in the industry is done on Mac - I've worked for companies where they only use PCs, except the design department (I don't really know why that was, though because - as you said - PCs do the job just as well)

I guess it just all boils down to personal preference. You get snobby, almost unbearable PC users just as you get snobby, almost unbearable Mac users (and it's even worse with Linux users because they think you're completely spasticated for using anything that isn't Linux!) Like I said, if you learn to ignore it, you'll be better off. It really doesn't matter anyway

..because it sucks? ;)

No, seriously.. I haven't got the time to muck about compiling and farting around in Terminal, plus I haven't found a build that's as nice to use as OS X.

Steve Jobs.

They are completley overpriced.

They hardly play any games due to them having absolute **** graphics cards, and an operating system that won't run them means having to buy one that will. In which case you may as well have just install osx on your pc anyway.

Steve Jobs.

They make out that their products like the iphone are revolutionary, yet they they were done 5 years ago (eg XDA). And don't have basic features like mms, 3g, bluetooth, and have crippled sms.

Their products are infested with drm eg itunes, the iphone is locked onto a rip off contract.

They make out that you can only edit video on a mac, even though video editing programs on the pc are much better.

Steve Jobs.
