Why do people listen to Heart FM?

Was the bane of my life at my last job, they seemed to only own 7 tracks and just stick them on loop for the day, waiting for someone to "request" the song they were going to play next anyway..

I would have been much happier there without it! luckily I would all but forget it was playing/block it out, until a customer would mention a song and then i would have to suffer it again for a while until i managed to forget about it again -.-

I have been subjected to this radio station for about 1 year for 1 hour each day, the presenters are incredibly unfunny and seem to think they are gods of knowledge about every subject.
This week topics include:
Why is windows 7 so bad?
When he clearly got mixed up with windows vista. Usually they have a question which lasts for a week which is about men/women and is usually stole off yahoo news. Most of the time when they are not playing terrible music, they have dull conversations where they dish out stereotypes about the opposite sex.
Do you know what the worst part is, TAKE THAT. They seem to play their music everyday, they also have a play-list which only consists of about 10 artists.

Why do people willingly listen to this monstrosity of a radio station?

n.b This radio station is forced upon me by my college bus.

You can say that about pretty much any radio station. Most presenters think of themselves as hip, cool and informed. I find them dull, stupid, irritating and profoundly unfunny. Hence the fact that I don't bother with normal radio ever. I do like listening to radio on iTunes where they play songs 24/7 without having to listen to some idiot's inane ramblings.

Congratulations, you have just described every commercial radio station and several publicly owned ones.

The only UK station worth listening to is R4 (ooh Charlotte Green, you filthy minx!)

Personally I think radio 4 should be taken off air for safety reasons. I wonder how many people fall asleep at the wheel after listening to a single monotonous tone (can't really call it a voice) for several minutes...

We have to have it on as part of our job role.

We run the Heart FM bingo/games site so it needs to be on during the day with the management are in and when we are not being subjected to Jeremy Kyle etc.

However, evening and weekends are the time we put more personal choices on :)

My wife listens to it all the time, and even puts it on the DAB radio in the kitchen instead of Planet Rock. It's dire.

More music variety my ****.

Get forced to listen to heart FM at work, words cant describe my pure hatred for that station. They must have a 20 times a day weather girls - its raining men quota.

You can tell the type of person who listens to it by choice when they do the phone in competitions.

'whats 21+7?'
'11'
'11? are you sure?'
'yes, 11.'

And you can definitely tell the male presenters spend their free time fapping over a life size take that poster.

I was subjected to this a couple of years ago when I was at Nottingham Citylink helping out in their warehouse.

You cant hurry Love.
Valerie
Something inside so strong.
Its Raining men.
Then anything by duffy.
That Take That song from stardust.

On permant loop, for a 12 hour shift, for 6 weeks.

Heart on a Friday night is pretty good with it's club classics, better than the dross on Radio 1.

We've had heart on at work for AGES and it bores me to death, the same loop played over and over - how they can claim to play "more music variety" is beyond me :o

We've had Gold on for the last two weeks and its much better - still not great but at least all the soppy love songs are gone - get some great classics on gold.

Of course for south/west London my recent favourite was Radio Jackie - they play a great mix of music and the presenters aren't brain dead repeating the same crap day after day.

Isn't heart fm a radio version of Heat magazine, or some other trashy celeb mag?
I'm sure the one time I saw an advert for it it's was basically insinuating that.

When I did my work experience 6years ago, it was radio1 in the office. Back then it was the same songs, played on repeat (more or less in the same order) with every presenter every day that week. By thursday I was timing myself by it!

Where I worked it was any of the Absolute stations. But mostly absolute 80's due to the grumpy warehouse manager. The 90's where the best!
Out van driving it's Capital fm (scotland) or Forth1, just flick between them whenever I got bored or had adverts.

I find Radio 2 to be a good all around radio station, its calm and relaxing most of the time. People have this odd opinion that Radio 2 is 'boring' and 'for old people' but after a few mins a song comes on that they like..

Most radio stations are utter tripe because the majority of people will have any kind of noise in the background while they work their mundane jobs. I worked in an IT shop warehouse once with the local radio station blaring away, the same songs in the same order with the same ads inbetween over and over every day. It drove me mad.

1 thing I miss from Finland...

Radio Rock when on car journeys. Here I have to put up with Hallam FM or Radio 1. Was an epic radio station, especially when everywhere is so far away ><

I hear your pain OP. This is EXACTLY like Radio 2 which I have to suffer at work for. I hate those BBC music stations (well 1 & 2 cuz thats all Ive heard lol) with such a passion because of 2 things:

1. Listening to R2 you would think 20 bands existed in the entire world. They seem to have a "core selection" of artists and hardly stray from that.
2. They repeat songs with such a vengeance

I never listen to R2 but have no choice as everyone at work likes it but dayuum...its just a relentless flow of Cold Play, Adele, Katherine Jenkins, Take That, JLS, Adele Adele Adele, Katherine Jenkins (yup again), GaGa GaGa, Cold Play (yes that ___ annoying Paradise song for 100th time) etc etc. Along with a gazillion other repeats (like the Pierces song).

On Wednesdays (I think) R2 at work plays "oldies"...but even the OLDIES are repeats...u hear the SAME oldies for the 1000000000th time. And everyone else in office humming along....no-one seems to mind. In fact if you made a CD and put each track on repeat (10000 times/song) they still wouldnt mind. And some really depressing "oldies"...that "Show me the way to Amarillo" one makes me want to run out screaming. Again its made more maddening by everyone humming away lol.

TBH I like GaGa but even then....they beat a good song into the ground by SO many repeats u get sick of it. I dont understand - we are paying for these stations. Please - theres enough music out there so that we are not subjected to 2 X repeats of the same song everyday.

Long live Internet Radio & Grooveshark for when we are at home! At 17:00 Im outta the office @ Mach 1 :D

I get so fed up with the turd music (Rihanna, rap hip hop junk clubby rubbish) on most radio stations, I either listen to silence or radio 4 if im feeling political :)

Got a DAB radio for a relative and was really impressed with the selection, Jazz and Rock specifically catered for!

Why aren't they standard in cars?

I think it has something to do with the way DAB is transmitted that it can't cope very well if the car is moving at speed (I think)

I normally flick between XFM and Absolute
