Hi, i been a tmobile customer for over a year now, when i first joined my speed was capped always at 4mb , then when started to read forums noticed it was capped , so i called up and the deny they cap the speed, depends where i live etc etc , then hour later and ever since i started getting 10-17mb always

this with cheap sim only deal £10.50 300mins - 300 texts - 500mb data - but unlimited browsing , even if i reach 500mb , i can still stream videos between 12am - 4pm

so i just seen the offer for £16 2000mins - unlimited texts and data , i called as i was interested in it , but wanting to know if was capped, so went to technical support , they said there is no cap , just depends where you are

so i said ok and was transferred to change plan and joined the offer, as soon i got off the phone i did a speed test and guess what stuck on 3.72 mb download , same location i been getting 10-17mb for 7 months always,

should i call them and complain ? cant believe they do this ? i dont use that much data but would feel know i get full speed

i called up, was in india :( , they said no speed cap depends on area , ya right, and told to hold and phone disconnected ??

i tried again this time said give it 3-4 hrs ?

also i got a sony play with a pay as you go Sim from t mobile, and did same test using same speedtest app same location, same settings, and the sony play gets 5.6mb download , when now galaxy s4 with full monty is stuck always at 3.72mb

i used to have a galaxy s3 which got 8-10mb always, this is when when after i complained the first time about speed cap also at first got 4mb download was fine after for 10 months or so, then got a sim free galaxy s4 which got 10-17mb as it uses DC-HSPA

how do i get to the UK technical apartment ? they get out card is depends on your area .

now i have 2 phones using sims from tmobile exact same location and and pay as you go is faster always and its on a lower spec phone, which doesn't even display the H+ plus bit

You need to speak to someone in the technical department as the basic customer support people don't have a clue what they are talking about. I just mash the keys when dialing 150 to get through to someone random and then ask to be put through, though I think there's a way through the maze of options! They just need to add HSDPA to your account.

Hi, will keep trying , been getting always between 10-17mb mostly around 15mb , im using a galaxy s4 so would love to get most out of it , now just stuck at 3.72mb, its ok, but i know it should be better , thanks

finally got through to UK technical support , and he admitted there is a cap, and said would jiggle it abit but wont give me as fast as before , said will do 6-10mb, i said why not try for 15mb he said cant ,

he did say last month i used 10gb , most of that was on speedtest i said, so restarted phone and just tiny bit better from 3.72mb now its 4.2mb ?? this is getting annoying , if only three was fast here i would have gone with them

Ask for your PAC

Hi, i just renewed to this today its a 12 month contract, how long do i have to cancel it ? its annoying says noting about it being capped , and whenever i asked they said its not capped, just pure lies , i wouldn't mind if they just said it was, im still gonna try and at least get better speed out of them

Not sure on the cooling off period to be honest, check your documents or phone T-Mobile. I'm sure they'll sort your issues when you request to leave.

Seriously?

What do you do on your phone that is too slow? What are you trying to achieve with higher speeds?

its just i know it should be faster , i have a galaxy s4 and like to stream in HD either in 720p or 1080p, i do notice it its not as fast opening or when skipping forward fast, i like to get what my device is capable off , also those using Pay As You Go SIMs get faster internet

if its capped why dont they just say it in the small print, every time i chatted to tmobile to ask about capping they said they do not cap at all.

I called up to upgrade to the full monty and i asked if it was capped they said we do not cap speeds , then finally i got someone in technical support admitted its capped at 4mb , and said will increase it to 10mb i said ok will settle for that, rebooted phone and now its 4.32mb slight increase

They clearly still do cap. It was only the beginning of last month that T-mobile got a telling off from ASA for using the word 'unlimited' to describe their unlimited plans when speed caps were being used. The small print from the full monty plan even explained the 4mb down / something up cap. That's gone now and there's a few articles explaining what T-mobile did in response to ASA's grilling - they removed the cap on p2p networking......but downloads and uploads are still capped.

Instead of explicitly stating as much now, the small print for full monty says this:

Please note, internet on your phone excludes using your phone as a modem (tethering) and network traffic controls apply. Your peer to peer file sharing experience will also be slower during peak hours.

And yes, that does contradict reports that they removed the p2p restrictions but there you go. t-mobile CS is either lying or just doesn't know what's going on.

Thanks for that, my main use is streaming hd stuff what would that come under ? i guess the speedtest app is downloading and uploading ? , just would have liked to know what speed cap it was,

I wonder if they're capping things to make their 4G offering more desirable. Streaming HD from say YouTube or Netflix shouldn't be classed as P2P traffic IMHO.

Is 4MB enough for you to do what you need?

ya should be enough gonna check my speed between 12am - 4pm might be faster during that time maybe thats why aint noticed it increased , too bad three is random here, find out when three brings 4g, well im on 12 months contract now, also when will the youtube app get option for HD over 3g ? doesnt make sense phones now with full hd screens

I'm currently in the middle of dealing with T-mobile regarding this issue. My current contract with them has a 1.5GB limit, however, the speed on this is uncapped therefore I can hit up to 10-12mbps download at times. They have told me that if I ever hit my limit, I won't be charged anything at all, I can still browse but my speed will be capped. I have no problem with this. When I rang them recently one of their advisors tried upgrading me to the Full Monty saying if I pay £5 extra a month, I can have totally unlimited internet with no data cap, no speed cap, no fair usage etc. I said I would think about it.

Last month I took out a new line with T-Mobile which is on the Full Monty. I have noticed though, that the internet speed is capped at 4mbps so I ring to have it removed. The CS which are based in India (it's very obvious they are not in the UK) have absolutely no clue about the speed cap. I've even spoken to managers, one acknowledged there is a speed cap but said there is nothing he can do about it. When I said I wanted to upgrade my old number to the Full Monty, I double checked to make sure that would actually be uncapped and he could not guarantee it. In fact he said it would also most probably have the 4mbps speed cap.

So yeah, I think I'm speaking to the wrong department. I don't think they are lying, some of them genuinely do not know the speed is capped from the conversations I've had. They are due to ring me back on Tuesday. If we are still getting nowhere, I will simply ask for the technical support dept.

exactly the same then, i did get to someone in UK technical support and he did admit was capped he said would change my speed to 6-10mb i said i would settle for that, on lower deal i was getting always 12-18mb, so got off rebooted the phone no change, its gone past 12am now and its still 4mb so i have no idea what change he did if any, gonna try tomorrow again

They never hid the fact they started capping at the beginning of 2013. See Traffic Management Policy below.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24367708&postcount=6

They had previously removed it towards the end of 2012, after they got a lot of unhappy users who knew capping was happening but T-Mobile refused to admit it.

As stated in your previous thread, Full Monty tariffs are designed to have these Traffic controls. I doubt anyone you can reach by phone can remove them for an individual person.
