Why Do Tmobile deny there is any cap on internet ?

They never hid the fact they started capping at the beginning of 2013. See Traffic Management Policy below.

They had previously removed it towards the end of 2012, after they got a lot of unhappy users who knew capping was happening but T-Mobile refused to admit it.

As I said up until april that speed cap was written in to the T/Cs. After the ASAs ruling (last month) that info has since been removed but download and upload speeds are still capped. It seems t-mob believe they are now complying with the ruling. Watch this space I suppose.

its just i know it should be faster , i have a galaxy s4 and like to stream in HD either in 720p or 1080p, i do notice it its not as fast opening or when skipping forward fast, i like to get what my device is capable off , also those using Pay As You Go SIMs get faster internet
When you took out the contract did they quote or guarantee a speed?

Even if you were not capped depending on your area or cell you might not even get GPRS speeds from 3G that's just the way it works.

I'm not arguing the validity or legality of a cap, just the morality of being outraged that you're not getting something that was never offered to you and in MANY scenarios is actually impossible on 3G.

Especially after you say you're wasting many GB of their bandwidth on speedtests.

And TBH as a service from any provider I would not expect to reliably stream 720p or 1080p over 3G. Again, this kind of thing is heavily dependent on where you are and cell usage.

Hi, when i first joined tmobile 12 months ago, it was capped also, at 4mb, it was 500mb data - unlimited browsing, i called up to ask and was told it wasn't capped, then hr later i did a test and been consistently getting 10-17mb at the locations im at so i know its not my location also they did say my locations is best for signal , and i know that by the speeds i get, also i could stream etc even with 500mb used up between 12am - 4pm

so i decide to change plan to Full Monty , and i asked if it was capped and was told its not capped, this was from 4 different people when i called tmobile , so i joined and checked speed dropped to 4mb suddenly , i also tested a pay as you go tmobile sim which is working much faster so not area,

i called technical support again this time told me it is capped, would increase it to 10mb , noting happened , i only did the tests to make sure over a month different times, was just a one off, also as i got a new phone seeing what i was getting over the S3

on there site it doesn't say anything about cap and they say its not capped ? you have to search for that PDF to finally find out, if they had 4mb cap i wouldnt mind but they either lie or the general staff dont know about it

That actually worked? Sweet, I'll give it a try. Thanks.

ya it worked 6.5mb will settle for that, its only because they denied it was capped, there get out card, depends on area your in , i said i have a pay as you go tmobile sim , same location and its much faster ?

three in my area is great, 1-4mb all over the place and can tell the difference big time against tmobile, i can stream youtube in HD and loads fast no buffering,

will do me fine till three get out 4g see what happens

I was uncapped for a bit but now back to being capped at 4mb again, really ridiculous seen as when I signed up I specifically asked if I would be capped and they said no.

after my 12 months is over, i think i will be going over to three, my friend gets 12mb at same locations, and with free 4g coming,

they doing this

All-you-can-eat data
2000 minutes
5000 texts
5000 Three-to-Three minutes & 5000 texts

£15
a month

Bare in mind they do cap speeds when you get into the top 5% data users.

They capped my speeds as soon as I moved to an unlimited data tariff and then denied it, but with gratuitous use of Google music I use over 20gb a month so I win.

And what is the 5% data users are?

I average about 16gb data with Three. Some month i'll use 20gb. And all that is with out tethering.

So what is the actual limit? I've not seen anyting that has effected me yet.

I got this once when I bought phone on tmobile through buymobilephones.net. This was 3 years ago and I gather back then it was standard practice to cap all 3rd party contracts.

It took a few attempts to speak to someone who knew about this

Anyone found a way to get the cap removed this time?

I'm going to cancel my direct debit soon if they don't sort it out, this is not what I paid for!!!

Hi, no i didnt even though i called a few times, i got to someone who admitted it was capped at 4pm down - 1mb up but they didnt do anything to increase it even though they said they will increase speed, so just gave up , funny thing is they said it was depending on area i was in, but i tried a Pay as you go sim in same location and got 9mb down

its annoying they dont even say its capped in the small print , i have 6 months and probably going to Three as they will be releasing 4g in December in my area and no add on cost and unlimited,

4mb is ok i can browse , stream without any buffering so i can cope with it

Ok guys, just been reading the multiple forums and came across this, I have had this problem in the past with a 3rd party contract on T-Mobile, 2+ Years ago I got a full monty tariff and was throttled back to 3G speeds which believe it or not is only around 356kbps. This is not advanced 3g or 3.5g. It took weeks of phone calls, threats and general moaning to T-Mobile and even though they never admitted it, one day my speed just shot up to over 12mbit, and this was over 2 years ago.

Since then I have had a 4G contract which has just ended, was great getting 60mbit+ apart from running out of data nearly every month even with 3gig. So decided to go back to the Full Monty again on 3G as I knew with the advanced 3G network was capable of giving up to 20mbit in good areas.

Well, after connection I wasn't surprised to find that I was only getting 4mbit down and 1mbit up. Sufficient some people would say but as I know what the network was capable of I was not happy.

Again it has taken me 2 weeks of phoning T-Mobile every single day to complain but I now have full speed again. Some advisors denied the cap some admitted it and said they were adjusting my speed but nothing ever changed, one higher technical support guy said the speed cap could not physically be removed. I had almost given up and was going to try and cancel when one morning my data go unlocked. Now I get 20mbit+ on fully H+ signal.

All I can say is if you are having this issue, persistence seems to work! Don't stop calling them, ask for head office address for complaints etc and mention the fact that the Full Monty tariff is being investigated by the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) for false advertising.

My only other issue with the full monty is they have sneakily removed tethering and was going to complain about that but weirdly tethering is working for me so I am keeping my mouth shut about that for now.

All I hope is the speed cap does not return. Hope this helps!

Do you people not have wifi at home or something?

Of course. What is annoying is they cap 3G then try and sell you 4G. Without the cap you can easily get 20Mb+ on 3G and they of course don't want to you get that!

I've not phoned them in a while, might have to try again!
