Sure but the mother has chosen to have that child (in most cases) and ultimately has the responsibily on whether to force her child to smoke or not. Restrictions are not the answer, educating people correctly is.

But what would your answer be to a mother carrying a child who refuses to learn about the dangers of smoking whilst pregnant for her baby?

Is she right to force her child to do something, just because she helped bring it into the world? How much freedom should a child have?

I agree on educating rather than restricting, no way in hell could we ever enforce it even if we wanted to, but the viewpoint is still there on if we could, should we?

Oh yeah if your parents smoke or not is a big factor. Mine were firmly anti-smoking so being the usual teen at the time I went against their wishes and tried one :p

This is always going to be subject to massive debates in the same way abortion is. I don't think there is a right answer but im more for giving people the freedom of choice not restricting them.

The child has no freedom really till it is brought into the world (outside the womb) and whilst inside it lies totally in the responsibility of the mother.

My dad used to smoke but stopped before my oldest sister was born so we never saw him smoking. Now me and my 2 sisters smoke and have done for a while. I started at 14 when a friend asked if I wanted a cigarette, I said yes and it went from there.

Regards the smoking ban, on 1 hand it will be handy as it may help me to quit, on the other hand it's really riled me up as someone is trying to force me to quit and as I'm stubborn I refuse to listen to people when they force an idea on me that I don't like.

I smoked because I wanted to, I bought fags I tried it I liked it.
Simple as.
I gave up because I wanted to as well.

If I wanted to start again I would.
I'll have the odd cigar and thats about it.

I like the occaisional cigar or *****.

Can't see the attraction with cigarettes. Not a huge fan of the taste or the buzz.

I don't smoke, mainly because my parents drilled it into me not to smoke from a young age. :)

I dont smoke.....but i do....kinda.

Smoke *party fags* but sometimes get terrible nicotine rushes.....i cant smoke a normal fag when im sober....i can however enjoy a fag when im pretty damn drunk.

Not addicted either way though.

My mum and dad used to smoke, my mum was a heavy smoker, which I guess is the reason why and my brother don't.

Some of my earliest memories are of being stuck in a smoke filled car because my mum refused to wind down a window because it was too cold or windy.

I'm 26 and never been tempted, had plenty of friends at school who smoked, but also had a few friends who had no interest like me. I'm pretty sure my brothers tried it, but he's never taken it up as a habit, he's quite vocal if someone's smoking next to him in an enclosed space :p

My Mum smokes
My real Dad smokes
My younger sister smokes
All my grandparents smoke
All my aunties smoke
Most of my colleagues over the years have smoked
60% or so of my non-internet mates smoke

I don't smoke. I'm not a frothing-at-the-mouth anti-smoker, but I'm no huge fan either.

From an early age I noticed that people who smoked seemed (to me) to be overriden by cigarettes, like it was a bit of an obsession. My mum always had to make sure she had fags, like they were as essential as your house keys and wallet.
As I got older, in my teens mates were constantly worrying about how they would afford more fags, how they could hide fags, or how they could sneak off to smoke. Sod that, I thought :D
My stepdad (former smoker who quit in his 30's) made a bet with me when I was about 14 for £50 that I'd be smoking before I was 18. Now to most kids these days £50 is bog-all, but when I was that age I considered it a serious wedge of cash. Still do!
I stuck to my word and never smoked, the old man paid up on the day of my 18th, he never forgot and still had the "Potential IOU" I'd written 4 years previously in his wallet.

I suppose I've always people who smoke as a bit weak, I'm probably wrong of course but all my exposure to smoking has been negative - people always going on about craving/needing/dying/gasping for a fag like cigarettes ruled them and I never fancied being part of it.

I smoke, like I do eat a bar of chocolate or some warm bread with foie gras, granted, the odd one out here is the smoking, because you can't die from eating chocolate or foie gras, but I do all of these things because in some neurological way, they are all pleasureful, producing a sensational high in one form or another.
