Why do you support your team?

When I was growing up I always looked at people like John Barnes and Robbie Fowler as role models - mainly because they were some of the best known lefties in the league, like myself. (Although I wasn't in the league...)

I'd always knew about Manchester United but I wanted to support someone different. And that's why I support Liverpool.

I don't really like making it sound like a 'choice' but I suppose it was.

That and the Northern Ireland football league is an embarrassment to the game. :D

I support Liverpool because my home team Cambridge is rubbish and I didn't fancy watching a bunch of semi armatures attempting to play something they like to pretend is called football. Sorry but why commit yourself to a life of misery and disappointment just because you feel the need to support a local team that isn't even given the full support of the owners or the city as a whole.

Plus I'm originally from Brighton and that also suffers from a similar problem, though not as marked. I'm not paying a small fortune to follow a minor team in Division One just because I lived there until I was 10, I may as well take my pick of the bigger clubs so I did. Though I did suport pool even before I moved.

Thats what I hate about people that 'support' a bigger club. Its a sport it isnt about winning...well it is but.... Liverpool are never going to get relegated, go bust, and will at some point win a trophy in the next few years most likely. Wheres the fun in that? Boring if you ask me. If everyone just went to watch Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U then we wouldnt have football league.

And following the same analogy why should I bother to run a marathon, or do something just because I want to do it? After all I'll never be good at it or 'win' so why bother?
