Why do you young-lings do this in IT Suites?

So I work in a High School as the IT Tech and I see this across all the schools in the authority, so around 10 in total.

I get the computers all setup perfect and then the pupils unplug the keyboard and mouse from the back and plug them into the front USB ports.

It does my head in! Please tell me why you do this? :D Is it the same across the UK?

I didn't do this.

At a guess it is because they want to plug something in without being seen, like charging their phone

I've worked in Secondary School IT for 8 years and it's not changed, they still do it.

Whats worse is pecking the keys off keyboards and laptops like they are a ****ing parrot!

It's because front USB ports contain Methylphenidate, the same thing they use in Ritalin etc, in the metal - it helps maintain a "shine" that you don't require on rear ports. Normally it remains dormant, but you can activate it by plugging in certain low-power electronic devices.

The kids are getting high, basically.

To be fair the laptop keyboards are really awful quality for a school environment so it's not always due to malice.

However we had a spate of the keyboard jokers recently, changing the keyboard letters to read "****, **** etc. Teachers know I won't waste my time fixing that so they do it themselves and teaches them to monitor their class better ;)

Star them out fully please

No idea, happened in the Secondary school I worked in...And it wasn't to make the cable longer as they still used it in the same place it was usually situated!

I can plug all the mice and kb back into the back in the morning. 3 lessons later 3/10 computers they are plugged into the front.

Also the Laptop kb damage! WHAT THE HELL KIDS?!

WHy do they think its a great idea to pick the keys off, then rip the rubber domes off the membrane then pick that off too? So i have a broken laptop keyboard that's going to cost the IT dept £25 to replace. I caught one kid doing this and reported them and all they got was a telling off... This is why schools cost so much to run

The worst thing has to be the morons who break the flaps on the backs of keyboards... And I'm talking more about secondary school/colleges... (In colleges, well, and schools, it seems to be the uneducated goons who ALWAYS do this)
