Why do you young-lings do this in IT Suites?

At my college, especially in the engineering department (I study aero) 98% of the idiots like to find the closest screw driver, side cutters, soldering irons, anything tbh and just destroy the keyboards and mice.. and also strip the cables too!

I feel sorry for the people that have to go around and fix all the computers they don't even last a day before they are broken again!

We used to spend weeks figuring out how to get into DOS, once there we normally ended up the lesson with the Deltree command on the computers with users who dared.

There was a strange way to by pass all the locks IT had in place by going through help in word if I remember. Took them ages to lock that out lol.

I don't do this, and I didn't when I was in school and college - but what is the problem with them plugging it in the front ports?

I'm guessing it's a little kid thing but looking at your age you're not much older than me, my school was still using ps/2 for most kb and mice while I went through it, I suppose that's why the scrotes here didn't do it :o

I went to school in the 80`s and metalwork/woodwork was awesome. Our metalwork teacher was brillaint (maybe why i am a design engineer now) He had a massive OAK tree chainsaw cut at the end of the room and in the final year we all had to make throwing stars, then go through tempering them etc.

He did make us all line up after the bell and made sure they was all dropped off in the class box though. I cant even imagine they are even allowed a file in these classes now. So very very sad.

Why does it matter which port they are plugged into?

Computers and peripherals last longer when people don't mess with them. So when a PC is setup everything is plugged in as it should be, at the back so the connectors and ports don't get damaged.

Usually school desks don't have much space so desktop PC's with used front ports have even less space. Resulting in damage / See above.

The front ports in some schools are used for saving work to USB sticks and generally come with two ports. Keyboard and Mouse plugged in......

There is absolutely no need to move them.

Not sure what you guys are on about?? I got 3 IT rooms with 0 damage since 2015!

You lot need tell staff to start watching the students. send bills to a few departments, and hand out a few detentions and use a lot of cables ties to keep cables where they should be.

Also take photos of the room at the start in perfect condition and the end of the day in a mess. The Head will soon get the teachers to look after the rooms.

Your lucky.

Our head couldn't care less. And SLT wont bother mentioning it as they know he will just say "Just replace it"...

I suppose thats what you get @ a school with 2455 students. -.-

Whats worse is that we just had 22 iPads arrive. 10 Mini 3's and 12 Airs.
And they are for Kids to use....
Its lucky i can fix the screens

Kids in high school will destroy/vandalise stuff out of frustration or boredom.

Years ago I attended a Nottinghamshire library to repair a PC and found the reason it wasn't booting properly is because someone had renamed a lot of the system files to swear words.

This reminds me back in school we used to take the balls out of the old rollerball mices in the classroom before the teacher came in, used to be a right laugh, but thinking back not sure it was a good idea as we used to end up having to listen to the teacher waffle for 45mins as the computers became unusable.

The computers are flat desktops on a kitchen worktop so there's just enough room for the keyboard. The kids would use the front ports (keyboard and mouse) then when they needed to write something they would rest their books on the USB connectors resulting in a broken keyboard or mouse almost daily.
