Why does Custom PC keep knocking ATI?

PC Gamer is another one that went down the pan. I swear to god they couldn't get any further up Gabe Newell's **** if they tried. :rolleyes:

At least six pages every issue dedicated to HL2, CS:S or it's associated mods.

Tip to the writers: THERE ARE OTHER GAMES OUT THERE!
 
I hated their review of Crysis.
Either thier game was perfect or they got sucked into the amazing graphics it gives.
The game had loads of bugs at the start and not once if i remember did they mention about it.

CustomPC in questionable poor reviews shocker!
The magazine used to be aright for a quick read when it was dirt cheap, nowadays it just seems a bit rubbish. I've always questioned their reviews and conclusions.
 
It is a Magazine.

As far as magazines go its a good 'un.

Should you believe everthing any magazine prints - NO

Should you believe everything written in forums - reviews or otherwise - NIMHO

Been subscribing for 2yrs now and still look forward to reading it. It is a source of info. some of which I find valuable.

This months watercooling article I found interesting and it is the major reason why I'm now seriously looking at water cooling my machine.

No I'm not employed by Dennis etc. I find the mag strikes , for me , the right balance (and I certainly do not consider that they are biased against Ati/Amd- e.g. they praised the 3850 very highly when it came out)
 
I've stopped buying it due to the fact that they recycle the same article every 6 issues or so, that and the fact that by the time they publish it, you've already seen reviews/benchies for "new" hardware online anyway!
 
CustomPC, written by noobs for noobs. I don't know why anyone buys that pap, their "news" is always about as fresh as mouldy veg, and their articles on overclocking etc are frankly pants. The mag makes me cringe.

Anyone with half a brain can see that Nvidia are the better option atm, who's gonna buy an ATi 3780X2 over a cheaper 8800GTX? who's buying 3870s over 9600GTs/8800GTs? If CPC is so biased, then we as enthusiasts must be biased too. The fact that Nvidia supposedly sponsors the magazine has nothing to do with it. What're they gonna do? Cut funding because of a bad review?

They are biased due to the fact that they use old drivers for ATi cards, and bang on about rubish beta drivers for months. The beta drivers were out in january, it's ARPIL now and they're still going on about the betas. It's obvious that they are biased when they recommend an 8800GT 256MB over a 3870. They are a good read, but this constant mis-information is getting tiring. Yeah, so they tell the truth that the 9 series is just a waste of time and a scam, but they couldn't get away with saying anything else.

Here's a quote from their review on a 3870

"While the HD 3850 is undoubtedly great value for money, the more expensive HD 3870 struggles to impress. It's measurably faster than the HD 3850, but it's priced midway between the 256MB and 512MB versions of the 8800 GT, both of which are significantly faster, especially when playing a game with anti-aliasing enabled - a must-have when gaming at low resolutions."

Now if that isn't biased, I don't know what is, but telling people a 256MB 8800GT is BETTER than a 3870 especially with AA is bullsh**t! The higher amount of RAM is better for AA and we all know this.

Last one i brought was for the 40 min flight from NI back over to Luton and an article regarding sound quality from your pc was rather compelling (for at least 10 mins of this flight too), and has inspired me to splash out on a real sound card one day...
that said it is flawed and so full of add's to it ruin any short break (and push me to buy more books)
 
it was a good read at one time but far too many ads now and they do seem a bit clueless aswell at times.

i wonder if they have realised the sammy 226bw is a tn panel yet...i remember them saying they couldnt tell what kind it was...try tilting your head a little maybe?
 
I've been a subscriber since issue 2, and I have to say you need to take it with a pinch of salt.

For 1, their reviews are pretty good, they try to keep their systems comparable down to the smallest changes (which is usually the reviewed component), and it's never a stupidly up to date machine, more a conservative middle of the current range PC, and it's never overclocked, so there are always going to be bandwidth/bottleneck issues.

2. They cannot overclock for No Swearing!. The most they get is from CPUs and most of the time, they are still what most people achieve without raising their voltages and CPC are pushing 12MegaVolts through it.

3. They cannot be expected to know everything. People who've been in the business for years and years would not know how to identify a Panel type on a Monitor, it's just infeasible to expect them to know everything. They've proved on many occasions they don't, but they at least TRY.

The features are the best bits in it anyway, not internet forum every step chronicled but good for what they are, they get to the point, and provide enough media to go with it.

Although I disagree about the Water cooling, that was complete tosh. It's great if you plan on getting one of those sets only, but if you are building your own, it's useless. They should have benchmarked CPU blocks in the same loop, and done that for everything, and then compared stuff like the differing CPU blocks effect on the GPU blocks cooling ability. I know I am asking a lot, but they went to the trouble of doing a water cooling round up, at least do it properly. The fact that every set there had different fans, radiators, Blocks, Pumps does not a fair test make, and kind of goes against what I said above about them being pretty good at being fair, and comparing things on an even level.

I hate the fact that I am a subscriber and I don't have a case badge that they give to new subscribers though. Those who have been subscribing long enough should get Gold (coloured not actual, although.....) ones. My only real complaint even though I never actually use case badges, it's the principle. In general they are no worse than any other internet site, as all of those support the findings of the magazine anyway.

And furthermore until the G92s came along the HD3000s were their midrange pick, were they not?

but if they are commenting about it and publishing it in their magazine what they are selling then they are expected to know what they are talking about....i honestly dont think thats asking too much.

im not sure if things have changed now but all 22" monitors were TN panels ...ok they may not have known this but when it comes to viewing angles the sammy 226bw just isnt that good...its a regular TN panel which if your not looking at it head on then its either too bright or too dark.

been subscribing for a year now.

i found it wierd that they are the only review that i have seen that badmouthed the OCability of the 9800GTX
