heres a thought... just rip out the patch lead from your ethernet port...

does dumeter still show the same figures, even when the interface is down?

Hi all and thanks for the help. Just pulled the cable and all dl/up stopped. Plugged it back in and its better at least its not at the mo contstantly dling/upping.

I dont think its fixed yet, but for now its ceased. Im going to investigate further when I get in from work tonight. Wtf can be causing this?

Edit:

Yeah its defnitaly stopped activity. :) maybe theres been a problem with my router and its been downloding and upping data for no apparent reason?

Anyway so far so good lol, thanks very much Atomiser for that sugestion. I havent a clue about ethreal etc, I have installed it and Im lost lol. ;)

I just turned off the pc and then turned it on and booted into windows and its started dl/upping again. Gonna pull the network cable to see if it solves it.. goddamit its doing it again? can I have a dodgy cable here??

Edit:
I pulled it again and put it in a different port in the router seems to have stopped it now. Christ this is a nightmare.

Hi all, I just got back from work. I have turned on the pc and it was quiet, no traffic then boom...

I treid unplugging the cable but it keeps coming back. I am not using the internet at all during this time. it shows as high as 5k a sec up and down and its really worrying me now. :(

Anyway I have installed ethreal, if anyone can tell me how to use it I will. I might also stop using the motherboards lan and stick in a wireless card to see if that helps any.

Pull the phoneline out and see if you still get traffic, if you do it's internal lan traffic and you need not worry about it.

Ok I have just pulled the phone line on the router and DU meter still shows its downloading and uploading. So it seems it must be the network traffic and not the internet? DU meter though cant seem to split the two? Next Im gonna install BW meter which can.

Well check this out...

duetc.jpg

The top 2 are BW meter and the bottom id DU meter (both show when I wasnt doing anything with the web). I think that proves that its not my internet connection downloading and uploading but its my lan. Seems DU cant differ between the two, so tells me its all activity. Am I correct here? Really really thanks to all for the help. I was very worried cos Nildram have a peak time when you can download and an off peak usage, I didnt know what the hell was going on, and was confused by the traffic. I feel waaay better now though. :)

Sure I'll post a screenshot of ethreal mate. Not sure at all why the Lan is downloading and uploading constantly though at all.

Im not sure what to post from ethreal though. I ran it and clicked capture / interface / clicked capture on my lan and it gave me another screen, it was doing something I clicked stop and it displayed loads of details about my router and lan.. is this waht you would like to see?

Obviously I dont want to show my computers IP address, I dont want to invite trouble lol. ;)

Hello mate no it makes no difference if the laptop is on or off/disconnected etc.

I will post some screenys soon btw. :)

I really dont know if this is what you want to see? theres tons and tons of it, I just highlighted a bit that may make sense to some one? Sorry for the size of pic btw.

I cant find an option inside the routers config to disable it. Any ideas?

Not sure if I can get a log but I'll try to.

Edit:

theres an option for Enable Wireless access point? I can untick that, is this it?

Excellent cheers Manlove, I can use DU meter again lol. :D

I unticked

Enable Wireless Access Point
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)

and ticked

Wireless Isolation

Still though the lan shows down and upping.

Hi all sorry for taking a while to reply. No there is ony a cable coming from the back of my lan motherboard to the DG834G router and in my bedroom there is a laptop with a Belking wireless card in it. The laptop uses the intenet connection of the dektop and has access to a couple of hard drives on the desktop.

Tonight I will up a log from ethreal, and you can have a sift through it. :)

The reason Im using the onboard lan, is I used to use a Netgear wireless card and it was causing massive stuttering in games. I have a different motherboard now though, so I could try it in the newer board. This might stop the chatter over the network.

Edit:

Any help how to get a log file from this prog would be welcome too lol. ;)

I can though capture the file as a ethreal or other app type, but not a notepad file by the looks of it.

I think I have it I will try and upload the file.

It looks to me, and Im really not sure as Im a nove at this kind of thing. But it looks as if the Lan is trying to send packets to from the desktop lan/to the laptops?

Gonna try and up it to my new FTP, Nildram have giving me. Unless one of you kind souls will accept it from me via email that is. :)

Then kindly analyze it and tell me what the hell is going on with my lan.

Even when the torrent client isnt running?

Interesting mate thanks. Anyway Im going to disable the onboard lan and use a Netgear WG311 wireless card I have lying around. I was thinking 192.168.0.1 was the pc and 192.168.0.2 was the laptop? but again Im far from an expert.

Thanks for your help mate, I really apreciate it. :)

Edit:

By the way, would anyone reccomend me uninstalling my lan drivers on my motherboard or will just disabling it in the bios be ok?
