Why does everyone diss the Wii ?, step inside............

That is the most rubbish i have ever heard, i'm a gamer, have been and always will. Nintendo are among the best at creating "easy to learn, hard to master" games, which are the elements most important to make a truely excellent game (strikers would be my first example, i'm sure as usual mariokart will also follow the same high standards).

They were. Nintendo haven't produced the same quality titles that we seen on the NES, SNES and N64. Miyamoto doesn't make proper games anymore because he oversees many projects so he can't put his full commitment into anymore of his masterpieces. Twilight Princess was weak, it was never as good as the OOT, LTTP or Link's Awakening and it hardly added anything new. Mariokart looks like the same game released on gamecube but more simplified to cater to the casuals, just because its online doesn't mean it will reinvent the series.

I had a Wii and I respect what Nintendo is doing. They have done a great job reaching out to people who haven't played games but people who think they still make great games for the hardcore need to go back to this years E3 and look at what Miyamoto made. They are aiming for a entirely different audience and to be honest I don't really think there are many households where Mum is playing Wii all day. The majority of owners will still be children, its the cheapest next-gen console parents can buy for them at the moment and that is why its selling incredibly well.

I still love Nintendo, I think Mario Galaxy looks great but I would definitely get more enjoyment out of something like LittleBigPlanet. Oh and this whole family thing, my PS3 is sitting in my living room because its a great multimedia device, my family and friends played the Wii for a day and got fed up of it

I have a 360 but hoping to get a Wii so I can try and get away from the poor gameplay and the games coming out these days, I honestly can't play one of my games (other than pro evo) for more than 30 minutes without getting seriously bored and turning it off.

I agree and I'd like one.

There's one problem, modern family board games don't cost £180 + c£40 for just one more controller.

For what it is I think it's overpriced and reading constant reports about how Nintendo are currently basking in record profits only reinforces this belief.

Nothing wrong with making massive profits if you really deserve it. Which Nintendo do imo.

I've been really impressed with my Wii, games were few and far between at first but now they're coming thick and fast. Played Mortal Kombat on my mates wii last week, I normally hate beat-em-ups as learning the special moves takes ages and is quite hard to do at first, but on the wii it was great fun right from the start. Two guys sitting on the couch frantically waving the controllers around while their toons stand and do nothing on screen :D

If I was a parent that wasn't into gaming, I would probably rather have my children playing a wii than an xbox 360 of a ps3. It would just seems more interactive and a more worthwhile purchase. This is probably contributing to its sales too.

When the xbox and ps3 are both ~£200, although the wii will be laughing because it will probably be sub £100, the other consoles will do better as people will be more able to afford them.

Although I like what Nintendo have done with the Wii, Its not a route I would like to see others follow. Less cutting edge and pushing the hardware.

The others are hardly cutting edge though, they are still all about price point and mass market domination. Its always sad to hear where Sony and Microsoft had to cut corners to save money, when the hardcore gamers would have been up for spending more money.
Would be interesting to see what Sega arcade division could come up with if 10 million people had £2000 to spend on a console. Bring back cartridges I say, make that £3500 as 3 screens should be standard ;)

I agree, I wasn't being negative when saying it is for children. I think it's great for children but I think gamers who are looking for huge epic games in the future have the wrong console. If I was 10 years younger I would be loving it but now that I look at games differently there are things that annoy me such as the controls. I think they are quite gimmicky, nothing responds as fast as buttons and the graphics in the system aren't going to age well. When you have these great looking games like FFXIII and Killzone 2 coming out in 08/09 I think Wii owners will be disappointed. Even recently looking at Heavenly Sword games are getting more and more close to looking like movies.

Other than a new control scheme it really is two gamecubes ducktaped together for £180. Nintendo are rolling in moneypits.

I also remember the days when I had to hide any games console/computer from my mates when they came round my flat, it wasnt something you admitted to your mates from footy or the pub, and I was probably the last person they expected to have a Snes or Playstation tucked away and god forbid a computer of any sort.
It was only really the Playstation and PS2 and PC with more realistic violent games that made gaming acceptable, and there is still a lot of snobbery from the PC crowd with regards to driving sims.

It's all a bit wierd really.
A very good point could be easily missed here, SC04 is right, a lot of cases of people I know, their first console was the Sony Playstation (although not me), but a lot of my friends didn't play games, played football and were outside all the time, however when the Playstation came around it bred the 'Playstation Generation', a section of gamers who liked the 'realistic' approach to games, blood, 3D violence, sports games etc... which from the step up of previous generations were huge (and probably the biggest leap yet), it was these games that captured the rest of the youth population into playing games and turning it into the massive market it is. The games that did this were Grand Theft Auto, Pro Evolution Soccer, Fifa Soccer etc... those realistic games that allowed these people to reach their goals and dreams of doing stuff outside what they could do in their reality (steal, kill, drive etc..).

Now the issue that may be over looked is that these gamers have been used to a specific genre or style throughout the Playstation, Playstation2, Xbox, Xbox360 etc.. now these are the gamers that don't see the element of fun that's available through Nintendo, a company that despite all the options and possibilities to go to the 'other side' and produce games for what is now the 'mass market' in terms of violence or realism that the Playstation Generation crave. This is why the Nintendo64 (albeit certain games were attractive: Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Turok, Mario Kart etc...), GameCube and now the Wii (especially the GameCube and Wii) aren't appreciated by what appears to be a large section of gamers. These consoles offer things that are out of the ordinary to most gamers now, they can't see why games that have daft concepts could be appreciated, especially against games like Pro Evo, Halo, Metal Gear Solid etc... could be popular and therefore bad-mouth Nintendo and its games.

It's the old saying, different strokes for different folks, that's exactly what Nintendo offer and as a result all the casual gamers who don't need the depth, realism or added cinema to games have snapped up the Wii and are enjoying playing fresh and innovative gaming, something that hasn't been offered much in the old style of gaming for what is now close to a decade.

That is the only reason I can see as to why people can't appreciate the Wii. Sorry if all that didn't make any sense, it was rushed and I'm shaking as I really feel quite sick and need something to eat :(. It's given me an idea to write a potential article on my blog though :p.

Wii 0wnz3rs 411 :)

seriously I have a 360 I have a Wii and I will buy a ps3 once gt5 is released.

The wii is more pick up and play and is the only one out of the 3 to reside in the living room, everyone from my 3 yr old to my granny has had a shot and found it fun and for me thats what gaming is about,
although some WOW action on the wii could be fun

Mate, us Wii owners were teenagers once, we know what its like to put looks first calm down, in 10 years time you'll be chilling to Mario Kart :)

Remember people Sony are ripping people off by selling a PS1 squashed down into a shiny Black case.

Really where are people getting the idea it's as powerful as two gamecubes?? Its more like a gamecube 1.1

I'd like a Wii but I think I'm the sort of person that would get bored of it quickly. I'm not really much of a social gamer, so the 360 is a better fit for me. Still, I think I might use the money I'm earning and buy a Wii anyway.

Sony are ripping people off? What on earth. The PS3 is doing much more than what the Wii can do, it has so many things in it. Nintendo is selling practically the same console with a different controller and selling it for £180. I don't even want to imagine how much it costs Nintendo to manufacture one.

Mario Kart is old now, it has been the same game since I played it on the SNES and N64. I won't be playing it 10 years in time and I won't be playing it on Wii either. I sold my Wii for a good amount before E3 and I definitely don't regret it.

I don't dislike the Wii, I just find it strange that you think Sony are ripping people off when Nintendo obviously aren't. Also, what about all those virtual console titles your buying for £5 or more when they cost Nintendo pratically nothing. And what happens when Wii 2 comes around and you want to transfer all your virtual console games to it, because as of it right now, you can't.

I have no problem with the wii. I do have a problem with nintendo fanboys telling me the wii is 'true' next-gen and the 360 and ps3 are identical to the previous gen consoles, that really gets my goat.

Cooking Mama, my kids aged 9, 12, 15 and my wife and me both 38 love it, the simplicity of the games just make it a wonderfull games console to own where we can all play and take turns and have a laugh.

My problem with the wii is i just can't find a game that sucks me in and makes me want to keep going back for more.
Zelda has some potential, but i hate games with only subtitles and no voice acting!!
Mario strikers isn't bad, but online is so poorly implemented it is unreal, also it is a gamecube game. Mario strikers, the big hitter, could work easily without the Wii controllers.
RE4 is ok, it is the closest game to being captivating i have found. The rest just seem to be mini games and party games.
When you don't live with anyone who wants to play games (except bowling  ) then it really has nothing to offer.

In short, it offers people who enjoy single player games **** all, and call me what you like, i get a game for the single player, multi player is an add on for me, except in a game purely for online (MMO's, BF)

That is my problems with it.
