Why does no one play the same game anymore?

I would play halo 3 more but no ones seems to play it anymore and i get ribbed everytime i do. Or we just play the same map over and over and it gets boring.

I play forza 2, Im just not any good at it :o

I always think ps3 and xbox players should be playing against each other, even better would be if it could be vs pc as well. I heard gta4 has a smart system where a group of 6 can join a game all at once if they like like a gang

I imagine you'd get pretty raped by PC players especially in FPS's where they could be playing with a keyboard and mouse at 85fps+...etc. Huge advantage.

I'd love to get a bunch of us online on resistance, it was excellent online!

Only game SP or MP that interests me now is MGS4/O. I haven't even turned my 360 in for about a month and half :( there's just no games that interest me.

I miss the days of Halo 2 (Can substitute it with goldeneye or SMK... whatever) when there were always at least 8 people floating around from here (or where I lived) to play with. Everyone seems to have abandoned playing the same game and now play many games for very brief periods of time.

Take the FPS genre for example where everyone used to play TS2, Goldeneye or Halo 2 during different generations. Now we have, in one generation:

Halo 3: A select few people play it, I guess it lacks soul.
GRAW: Plenty of people played it but it was really short lived, not sure why.
Gears: Maybe the party size is too small and a really dull/glitchy game.
CoD4: Only complete retards seem to play this online in all game modes so it's boring to play, especially as a team. This one seems obvious I suppose as a game needs to be challenging to maintain interest.
RB6: Had potential but never took off, maybe the graphics?
UT3: Crap game all around
BFBC: Not popular at all
Resistance/Warhawk: PSN/PS3 is generally anti-social but great to play on your own

There doesn't seem to be a pattern except for a lot of choice.

Anyone else miss the Halo 2 (Or Goldeneye, whatever) days (even though I only caught the tail end of it) where everyone played the same game regularly rather than playing many multiplayer games briefly and in tiny little groups? I suppose this is what I expected Halo 3 to be as it was the people who played it that made Halo 2 so fun to play but even at uni, where everyone I knew played Halo 2, no one seems to play the same game.

Is it because of this generation of consoles? I'm inclined to say no because the brawl scene is pretty big around here with plenty of tournaments and players but everyone is crap at that :(

I'm not sure where this post is going as I never normally make long posts but to summarise:

tl;dr version:

Why does no one play the same multiplayer games anymore? Is it too much choice, a generally unpopular generation of consoles, "been there done that", bad games in general or too much focus on graphics?

BFBC not popular? I never have trouble finding a game and I really like it. Better than CoD4 imo.

Anyway, with regards to your last question...it's too much choice. So many games to play.

I think the main issue is the sheer amount of choice and the number of different platforms. Before the days of Xbox 360 and PS3, online gaming was primarily on the PC, meaning the amount of games available was limited. Now there are 3 online consoles and PCs, all with their own games - people cant play them all there just isnt time. That is the root of the problem imo

This is the main reason I haven't really taken a big interest in console gaming this generation. Because a game will come out, everyone will be playing it online for about a month or two and then another new game will come out and the servers for the last game get deserted. That's why I prefer PC gaming these days for online, because there are bigger and more dedicated communities that play the same game for years, and even when a sequel or the next big game is released, you will still get many people playing that original game.

Kree, I miss the Halo 2 days so much but I think people move on so fast now because they've been spoilt for choice - there wernt many games on the original Xbox that were actually good and wanted you to keep playing them.

I have never and will never get sick of Halo 2, there is something about it which is unique which all other games (in my opinion) lack but I cant put my finger on it. If I went back to Halo 2 I would get hooked again, same with the campaign - I can play it infinite times over.

And if you cant find any Halo 3 players, get more people on your friends list that play the game - simple, I have people on my friends list that are on Halo 3 every single day without fail. I honestly bet you have a crap friends list, you need more people on it so you get more choice :)

I will never personally go back to Halo 3 because I've realised now that it is total garbage compared to 2.

We still get 6 people most nights on COD4 - I only really like playing it with the guys from OCUK and/or mates now. So much better

There's loads of people but no community. This thread isn't online focussed, it's about people in general, particularly my irl friends. I recently deleted all but about 6 people from my friends list because no one from OcUK ever play together bar about 5 people who play CoD4 matches.

Also, if you could happily play Halo 2 over the recent games then surely it's not special because of a lack of competition during the XBox 1 days?

Edit: lol, excellent timing Mr Camper :p ;)

Where did I mention me playing with you? I'm abstracting myself from this and looking at the bigger picture. I meant that no one on ocuk plays together like the Halo 2/CSS days.

I wasn't around back then, so that's all I can add to the thread.

I guess it's as simple as people's prioritys change.

I know they've changed but the question is why. It's obviously changed because of something in the industry and not an intrinsic motivation because a game like Brawl can yank them back into their old routines.

No it isnt special purely because of the lack of competition, but that certainly helped - what do you mean mr camper?

Its changed simply because were now spoilt for choice and always demanding more from games, we also seem to get bored of them a lot easier too which I cant put my finger on.
