I'm not sure about the paper version but isn't the online version the single most read website in the UK? It aims at a very specific group of people, many of whom we would find abhorrent or ridiculous in their views, particularly when it comes to politics. On the other hand, there are a huge number of people who lap up anti foreigner, anti women, anti poor people rhetoric as it aligns nicely with their pathetic, narrow-minded and bigoted views of how the south of England the UK should be.

Its a newspaper, it entertains people. A bit like TOWIE. Yes they're both junk but reletively harmless...unless...unless you're one of these people who take it seriously and treat like it is an accurate illustration of real life.

Same reason as all the other Newspapers exist.
Many people like reading what they write so they give them money for it, they like money so they continue to write what they think the many people will pay money for.
All Newspapers are full of someone else's opinion, in this day and age it's easy to find the facts on something that may interest you, Newspapers don't do that.
