Why does the UK hate cyclists?

Car drivers are the true problem. They’re the ones polluting the environment, causing the conjestion and damaging the roads which then need to be repaired which causes more traffic jams.

You burn more energy as a cyclist thus eat more. You buy more which means the supermarkets have to bring in more food which means more lorries which do probably do more damage to the road, lorries take more space and are slower to accelerate causing more congestion. Cyclists are the real problem here :p.

Unless they’re not earning anything and are only consuming vat exempt food, they’re paying tax.

I certainly wasn't paying any up to the age of 18 and i cycled every day.

Heck until I finished uni I paid very little!

It’s funny how drivers always think they own the road because they pay “road tax”.

Say that in motors and you’ll get shot down in 2 seconds and be corrected.

Then what’s the excuse about tax again?

Just come back from Amsterdam, cycling over there is a free for all, buses, cars, bikes, cycles, trams all sharing the same bit of road, I didn't fancy it at all.

Car drivers get frustrated at the fact they aren't moving.
London's a bit different however, stop at lights and your surrounded by cyclists.

Suggest you reread that.

"were resident in a household with access to a car or van.

The equivalent overall figure for all survey respondents in Great Britain was 82%."

Not that they drive

But somehow people there manage and there’s no road rage right?

How do they manage it? Nobody seems to be bothered, are they smarter people or just something people just get on with it.

It’s totally the culture and mentality, the less people get angry about cyclist, the more people won’t get scared and more people cycle and there will be less cars on the road. Everybody wins.

IKR!

Oh, wait...........

Cyclists don't cause congestion, cars cause congestion.
Your reply is a bit facetious/disingenuous, try rush hour on single carriageway back lane A roads. I don't begrudge anyone though who wishes to cycle instead of driving, when I was living in Chelmsford cycling was my preferred method of getting around the town.

The only problem i have with a lot of cyclists is as a pedestrian I find a lot of them won't stop at zebra and pelican crossings other then that I'm fine with them.

This is the same thing I encounter every day. That and doddering old gits. Most of my commute is 60mph country roads where you constantly get stuck behind cyclists at 15mph. Definitely not the car drivers causing congestion round here!

Re red light jumping, it has been suggested that like car drivers, some cyclists do, and some don’t.
Stand at any junction with traffic lights in London, and you’ll see that it’s more like some cyclists stop at a red light, but the vast majority don’t, while with vehicles, it’s almost every one of them stops when the lights are red, but occasionally one or two don’t.
So yes, some cyclists ignore red lights, like a big percentage, while one or two cars will run a red, but almost all cars will stop.

How about:-

But according to new research, people who cycle the most are likely to own at least two cars.

Regular cyclists – those who cycle at least once a week – are also disproportionately likely to read broadsheet newspapers, be well educated, have a household income of at least £50,000 per year and shop at Waitrose, claims the latest Mintel report, Bicycles in the UK 2010. In addition, they are twice as likely to be men as women.

Interesting interpretation.

Here's a though for the day though, what's the consequence if a cyclist jumps a red light versus if a car jumps a red light? I've not seen any serious accidents involving cyclists jumping red lights but seen plenty of good smashes when a car does it.

I often think the faux rage by motorists directed at cyclists jumping red lights is down to the fact they wish they could get away with it as well.

There are even trials being conducted that let cyclists ride through red lights and preliminary indications suggest it INCREASES cyclist safety. I think Cambridge, Oxford and Manchester will be running similar trials next summer.
