Why dont I have a pug?

LMAO Psycho Sonny.

Some of the most popular, most successful, most socially adept people I know own either dogs or cats.

Stupid generalisation is stupid.

In before "Sounds like my kids"

kids after a certain age can start looking after themselves, they can also go out and get a job and contribute towards bills.

they can shower themselves and usually have decent hygiene and dont smell, they also wont put down the value of your home, or spread their hair about your whole home.

they are completely different in every sense, when you talk to a kid you can have a proper conversation with it. its not all one way.

Yes, but upto (and far beyond) that certain age kids cost a fortune to 'run'.

Besides, kids almost always want pets, and some pets are very good for helping children to develop responsibility. So whilst a lack of pets may be a personal preference for some, for others pets are good for some people, and so what if some lonely people look to their pet for company? Not everybody gets on well with people and find companionship in their animals.

i dont believe you

LOL.

I won't go into it, as there really is no point in arguing with you. :p

For your side of the argument, I know just as many people who are socially adept and successful who have never owned a pet in their lives.

reasons not to own a dog:

only people who are socially awkward buy pets (jokes made about cat ladies, etc), basically people with either no real friends, or a very small number of friends. just look at any dog/cat owner, and see how much time they spend socialising outside of their work, with friends/family.

they smell.

they are unhygienic.

they will put down the value your house.

they make your home smell.

they cover your home in dog hair and it gets everywhere, clothes, sofa's, kitchen, etc its just disgusting.

you have to pick up their ****.

you have to wash them for their whole live's.

they cost money to look after (vet bills, food, getting nails clipped, etc) and will never ever be able to pay towards their own bills ever.

seriously what are the advantages of having a dog?
That list is pretty much the reasoning behind why I don't want children :D.

Take a pet's need to be fed and taken outside every few hours, for instance. That responsibility gives pet owners purpose and makes them feel needed, improving their senses of self worth. It also forces them to get off the couch and go for a walk every now and then, boosting both health and happiness.

Besides the behavioral changes, studies also show that interacting with a pet helps to reduce levels of harmful neurochemicals in the body and raise the good ones.

So is Fido a dog or a furry-coated Prozac?

read through the above and understand how sad you must be to own a dog, it improves your self worth, etc. its basically filling a void in your life which you failed to get through normal channels.

And while it's usually the four-legged furries that get all the credit, other pets can help, too. Simply watching a fish tank versus a bare wall for 30 minutes lowers blood pressure significantly [source: Duncan]. Observing an aquarium can be an even more powerful relaxant than several proven meditative techniques [source: Lynch].

basically means sad people with no lives should get a dog to be happier, people who have lives and friends have no need to get one.

Whoever coined the saying "good friends are hard to find" probably didn't have a pet.

yeah no **** sherlock, thats because they had good friends and didnt need a pet to fill that "gap" in their lives.

Fido's soulful eyes, you're not alone. A study on the bonds between people and their animals revealed that 97 percent of pet owners talk to their pets

really the need to talk to something which doesnt understand a word your saying? this proves dog owners are socially inept.

Not only can pets be an integral member of a person's social network, but they can help extend that network.

proves my theory yet again. when a pet beceoms an integral part of your social network, thats when you have to realise your socially awkward.

The companionship pets offer can be especially beneficial to the elderly or the infirm, who often have trouble maintaining lasting friendships. The presence of a pet provides a constant source of healthy social stimulation that can be hard to find in even a spouse or a caretaker.

so basically if you cannot find a good wife or friend, get a dog.

Your reasoning fails, simply because I want a pug not as a companion, just because they're awesome. :p

Animals have been an integral part of billions of people's lives for an awfully long time. Just because you have an opinion it doesn't mean that it applies to all cases. Not everyone with a pet is a social retard. Although I have two cats, and regularly talk to them that doesn't mean I'm a social retard either. I have plenty of friends, and my cats respond to being spoken to. It just helps reinforce the companionship between my cats and I (until one of them pukes on my shoes).

I have one and he's awesome.

On a side note. Dogs are awsome xD

Having a pet is incredibly normal, if you base normality on commonality of it occurring.

so basically if you cannot find a good wife or friend, get a dog.

You seem to think that every pet owner is on par with a crazy cat lady. Most pets are owned by couples or families with children, making your above statement completely moot.

You're just a selfish idiot as far as I can see, you only look at it from a "how does xyz benefit me?" angle.

@Psycho Sonny, so people who have working dogs are filling an empty heartless void in their life? No, the dog is required and is also a companion.

You could say the same for people with a computer. They have a computer to fill an empty void in their life, they play games because they have no friends etc, blah blah blah. No they do it because they want to and it can also serve as a work machine...

Your argument is flawed.

I like how pugs always look like they are looking in opposite directions, like two lazy eyes.

lol

I like poodles (not with stupid gay haircuts though), more like this:

Have have a good wife, lots of good friends and a dog. What do I win ?

In fact my parents have a dog, both my sisters have dogs. I wonder if it is due to us having grown up with dogs? hmmmm
