Just been thinking about the Carson transfer and the general transfer rumours that are kicking off left right and centre...why are other clubs not very interested in English players?

There wasn't - as far as i know anyways - any other clubs from outside of England interested in Carroll, Phil Jones, Charlie Adam, Downing or anyone really that has just moved or might be moving...

There is always talk of English clubs wanting so and so from a Spanish/Italian/French/German/etc but not the other way around...

Why is that? :o

Probably because English players tend to cost a lot more despite having less ability than other nationalities.

I always like to see English players moving abroad to test themselves so I am delighted Mancienne has moved abroad. Its a pity more don't follow. Daniel Sturridge would impress abroad I feel.

Now that you mention it, theres really no English players playing for big teams outside of England.

Looking at past big name footballers from England, theres only a few that have played for big clubs.

Gary Lineker - Barcelona
Steve McManaman -Real Madrid
David Beckham - Real Madrid
Michael Owen - Real Madrid

sure theres more but those are the ones that stick out for me.

Because comparatively English players are ****. The players you listed are not as good as their foreign counterparts.

This is all down to English kids being taught at grass roots level to 'get rid of it!!!!!' instead of being taught to take the man on and go past him. They don't get to practise taking people on because if they don't listen to the coaches they are dropped in favour of the kids who do listen.

It's not because english players are all rubbish, it's simply because they don't represent good value for money.

Not to mention the laws are different for kids in England compared to in Spain. In Spain they can go to a football academy much earlier in life.

I think some comments are a little harsh on English players. They have their problems but this isn't a major one.

England has a strong league so there isn't so much need to move, how many Spanish internationals play outside Spain?

Italian nationals outside Italy? German nationals outside Germany?

Firstly, English players tend to get into FAR more trouble in the UK than foreign players, and that fact isn't missed by foreign clubs. Cost, and frankly English players never seem to love the continental lifestyle. Anyone who has lived for even a couple weeks in Spain/Italy/France knows the general feel of life is very different to the uk. Just as foreign players very often ending up back in Spain/Italy, England players rarely last more than a year or two the very few times they go abroad.

This is ignoring the fact that, foreign players ARE better, and cheaper.

SO better, cheaper, less likely to leave, less likely to get into trouble. What are the positives........ I really can't think of any.

Jonathan Woodgate - Real Madrid
Steve McManamanaman - Real Madrid

And you wonder why they don't want English players any more? :)

It's not because english players are all rubbish, it's simply because they don't represent good value for money.

Yep it's the same as in the normal working world tbh, why pay an astronomical amount to employ a Brit when you can scout some Eastern European talent for a fraction of the cost/wages?

OK first up, Charlie Adam isn't English.

Main reasons are as follows:

1) English clubs pay big wages, so there is little incentive to move abroad - especially since Spain changed their tax laws, in the Beckham era foreigners could blag some 24% top rate of tax, now it is much higher.
2) English players typically only speak English, you won't find many who could simply jet off to Spain, Italy etc and be speaking the lingo just like that.
3) English players are overpriced, even young players who haven't proven themselves at the highest level are going for £5m+. Henderson, Jones etc all £16m+ deals, can you honestly see foreign clubs who have that much cash to spend going yeah, these guys really bossed it for a few matches playing at Sunderland and Blackburn, I want a piece of that!

At the end of the day money talks, go back 20 years before the Premiership gravy train truly rolled into town and you had the top English players like Des Walker, Paul Gascoigne, David Platt etc plying their trade overseas. The difference is now the top players can earn good coin, £100k/week+ playing for English clubs. So the players that go overseas nowadays tend to be just average English players who are nowhere near the national team, you know your Jermain Pennants, Colin Kazim-Richards', Darren Huckerbys, Robbie Fowlers, Nicky Butts etc etc.

Just googled Nicky Butt and his South China career...

From Wiki.

South China

On 6 November 2010, the chairman of Hong Kong club South China, Steven Lo, said that the club expected Butt to sign for them at the end of the month.[12] Butt signed for South China on 22 November. His first match was against TSW Pegasus in a 2–1 win for South China. Butt scored from a freekick during this game but also embarrasingly missed a penalty.[13] He went back to UK right after the game. He came back to Hong Kong in mid January 2011. His second match with South China was against Tai Po FC in a 0-1 defeat on 29 January 2011. Mateja Kežman also debuted for South China in the same match. Butt received his first red card against rivals Kitchee in a league match which later prove to be crucial in deciding the league title. Butt left South China and returned England in May 2011.

5 appearances, 1 goal...not a bad ratio. :p

They are very expensive for what they are.

You typical mid division La Liga side couldnt justify matching the wages that a mid division English player would be on.
