Why don't you guys just....wait a bit?

G Sync is still better than Free Sync
So is that why Nvidia did the whole certified Freesync monitors thing a while back and even appropriated the Freesync brand by pushing "G Sync compatible" as the moniker? And G Sync-branded laptops didn't even use G Sync.
From a technical viewpoint, I really doubt that its going to be possible for AMD to 'batter Ampere all over the place'. At best they are playing a game of catching up, and will be lucky to even get on par. The tech and specification on these cards are second to none.
Just not even remotely true.

I think you're posting in the wrong place if you expect a forum full of enthusiasts to relax when a new product has been released at extortionate prices with limited supply aimed exactly at them.

I know but meh. I'll be buying after Big Navi. Things would have calmed down by then hopefully

It was always my plan to wait and to watch the reviews of the 3080's founders and AIB cards. And to see if AMD comes up with anything decent in october. But I have to say it was shocking to see the absolute meltdown and frankly embarrassing shoddy lowdown money grabbing practices of ocuk and the likes, really showed you the lenghts and depths companys will delve to. Understand its tough out there in this current clime, but make no mistake you have brand damaged the name you had. Lot's of peed of customers after that one. Anyway I'll wait as i dont need anything until xmas so by then i'll have hopefully a decent choice of options. Like the look and performance of the ASUS TUF OC by the way going on Hardware unboxed review. Its a tough one though, rumours of a 3080 20 gig card, but its getting into silly money realms. So come on big navi.

You're running a 3900X and you don't see AMD pulling anything off? Alright then.

TBH all the rumours from twitter are faster than a 3070 with more RAM but who knows.
I can't see it happening either but I'll be getting one anyway to replace the 5700xt

That Asus TUF card is now going to be gouged to hell now it's had good reviews.

Well we're all waiting anyway, not like we have a choice. I will say this though, sold my card like 2 months ago or more, so I'm getting tired of it! :P

CPU's yes for AMD but their cards have never fufilled the promises. Waiting for AMD to bring out a Nvidia killer is akin to playing the Euro Lottery every Friday, you pray it happens but it never does.

This also turns an already expensive purchase into a ridiculously expensive purchase, unless 2nd hand monitors hold their value well?

Yeah but G Sync people chose to get into that situation. They knew 100% that G sync limits them to an nvidia card. Oh Jenson, you're my fwiend and I'll keep buying nvidia cards forever and ever. nvidia fwiends forever.

Oh my goodness.
Why don't you guys just wait?

1 In a month or two prices would have stabilized.
2 The brand of card you want will more likely be in stock.
3 20GB 3080's might be announced.
4 AMD will reveal Big Navi.
5 More reviews will be out on all the AIB cards. EG The Asus TUF is so fatr the best cooler out of all the ones tested.

Just relax guys.

I think I’d feel the same way too if I had a 1080Ti... wanna swap?

older games don't need more performance than a 2080/1080Ti
3080 walks all over a 2080/1080Ti in old games at 4k, even at 1440p for people wanting 144hz+ it is a clear improvement.

I'm not getting one because I still think £650 for a gfx card is bonkers but I can see why people who are happy to spend that much would jump on it especially if they were able to sell an existing (vastly inferior) card for a good price in recent months. I'm on a 1070ti so even if I'd been able to get say £175 for it in the summer (bit ambitious maybe?) I'd still be forking out another £475 on top of having to run on a backup card for a while.

At this point the upmost sensible and actually the right thing to do (considering how NV handled this launch) is wait for big navi
