https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ng-contender-race-PM-reveals-deep-regret.html

I dont think it would be at all unreasonable to say (Something like);

"Yes, I tried it a couple of times when I was younger, when offered the opportunity at parties. The experience was interesting but not one I ever felt any desire to make a habit of. I still maintain that these recreational narcotics should be controlled and would have no intention of decriminalising their use"

I dont actually see that as hypocritical at all really, .

But all this blather about ;

"I made a terrible mistake at the time and deeply regret my actions"

Its almost as bad as Clinton claiming that he didn't inhale! :rolleyes:

20 years ago he would have been around 30, which isn't quite the same as someone trying drugs as a teenager or student.

How old are you?

Also, I can certainly see situations where somebody in their 30's might just try something, should the opportunity arise, that they didnt have an opportunity to experience in an earlier life.

This, is not, in itself, a legitimate criticism.

Hell, 15 years ago or so I went to a lap dance club (Part of somebody elses stag night)

It was an interesting experience but not one I have any interest in repeating.

Dont really see the attraction really.

I have also smoked tobacco in various froms too.

Don't see the attraction for that either

I may not like the guy myself as a potential PM is neither here nor there. The fact hat he snorted a bit of coke 20 years ago is utterly irrelevent.

I agree that it's irrelevant and it's just them trying to look like they are like everyone else but personally I think at 30 you should have more sense, particularly if you're looking to be a politician.

Some people grow up terribly young! Its rather sad actually, I am touching 60 and am still quite capable of doing something daft and/or outrageous should the opportunity arise. :p

(Mind, I do have a degree of caution. I might well try snorting a bit of Coke (Something I have never done thus far) in a controlled environment with people I know and trust. I would never in a million years stuff some anonymous powder of unknown provenance obtained from a guy in a hood on a street corner up my nose or anywhere else for that matter!)

Whose opinion would you respect the more.

#1 "I have taken drugs in the past and on the basis of my personal experience, I maintain that they should remain prohibited"

#2 "I have never taken drugs because drugs are bad, and if i did i didn't inhale"

And another question.

Should Ted Heath (Not somebody I am any great fan of mind. Its his fault we are in the mess we are in now after all) have been prevented from becoming PM (and indeed chucked out of parliament altogether along with all the other poofs) on the grounds that prior to the sexual offenses act 1964, they would all have been sex criminals who had also broken the law??

I would have thought the focus would not be on the legality of taking the drug itself, but the fact that hundreds/thousands of people die yearly in the manufacture and export of cocaine from South America, and gang violence in London revolves around the distribution and selling of drugs. All that damage just so Gove can snort some coke.

For the most part, this Butchers Bill arises not from the production and distribution of cocaine but rather simply because it is illegal.

(As does the Butchers Bill among the users)

Just like making the mistake of being poor, of which the Tories will make you suffer forever.

Nonsense. Tories want people to be rich, what is the point of owning a corperation if nobody can afford to buy the goods that you produce.

It is the Socialists who require a permanent population of chronically poor people who they can exploit and forever rely on for their support by sewing bitterness and envy.

I so miss "Not the nine o'clock news"

What a meal they would make of all this now Boris's "Class A" usage has been called into question too.

I can see it now, All the leadership hopefuls lounging on Sofas in a house in Claa-am or Chelsea.

Passing round the mirror and the razor blades, snorting through £50's, and all the while denouncing the drug trade and demanding that scumbag dealers should given no quarter by the Law.

:p
